cooks tree boa

Does any body have any cooks pics "corallus hortulanus"
the local pet shop has one that is not for sale so they say.
it isnt being taking care of very well IMHO. I told one of the employees last night it had mites.
Hopefully with enough bugging the hell out of them it will end up in good hands.:rolleyes:

<center>Cooks Tree Boas <i> (Corallus cooki) </i> are seldome seen boas in the hobby. People have been confusing these boas with the Amazon Tree Boas <i> (Corallus hortulanus) </i> for years now.

I have a few pics of my Amazons.... Here's one to start off with. I've been trying to get the time to take more pics lately but I've been very busy. I'll be producing two litters of Amazons this summer so I'll be sure to take lots of pics then. :)

I have 2 Cook's and found out lately that I have one amazon when I counted the scales.

I will count the scales of the others that I think are Cook with the next shed.
Anyway

The one I seen looks alot like your male juvie POIS.
I didnt do a scale count either, just drew my own conclusion.
Heres one I found on the net last night thats close coloration wise, pretty light.

As I was talking about scale counts, My little female shedded yesterday,
and she has a big count of 58 scales !!!
Weeee
2 amazons, probably 3 with the juv male...
I'll see next shed, lol.

If those are indeed true cooks then you would be very lucky considering they cannot be legally collected or imported. I've never seen a true cooks in captivity, I've only heard of some Europeans keeping them in small numbers.

Cooks Tree Boas are very similar to the Amazons but they are almost always very dark in color. Almost black in appearance with some patterning. If you know what to look for you could almost pick a cook out of a pile of Amazons, of coarse a scale count is what really matters.

Cooks Tree Boas <i> Corallus cooki </i> count out at:

<b> Dorsal scale rows at midbody (35-47)
Subcaudals in males (103-119)
Subcaudals in females (105-119)
Anal entire loreolabials (2-5)
Scales between supraorlabials (5-10)
Some labials with deep pits </b>

And Amazon Tree Boas <i>Corallus hortulanus </i>count out at:

<b> Superalabials (11-15)
Infra labials (17-20)
Dorsal scale rows at mid body (38-59)
Ventrals (270-299)
Subcaduals (103-130 </b>

If your Cooks do add up to these numbers I would like to know whom brought this animal in? Like I said in my earlier post, true Cooks are seldom seen in collections and if any did start popping up they would unfortunately be illegal imports unless proven otherwise.
