Hello all, i am new to this site and it looks like i can learn a lot of info on my snake here. I have a baby ball python that i have had for a week now. His name is Monty and he is so much fun to watch!

I have a couple of questions...
I noticed some bubbles that form around his mouth when he breathes, both coming from the side of his mouth and around the top of his nose. Is this the sign of a resperatory infection or am i being paranoid??? This is my first ball python and want to make sure i am doing everything i can to make him happy. I have a UTH and heat lamp, the temp gets to 88-90 during the day and 80 at night, in the hot spots. The humidity gets between 50 and 60. I fed him the other day and it was pretty easy. I feel blessed cause i have heard how difficult it can be to feed these guys. Sorry for the long post, but i just want to make sure my BP is healthy...

Thanks in advance!

Brian

Welcome to the forums, Brian.

Bubbles around the mouth usually mean a respiratory infection. I would definitely recommend taking your ball to the vet immediately.

What is the temperature on the cool side of your terrarium? If it is too low, that could be a cause of it as well. What kind of substrate are you using? If you are using cedar, or if your terarium contains cedar, it could be due to a chemical irritant. Simply change your substrate to paper towels or newspaper. Other chemical irritants could come from harsh cleaning chemicals, or a dirty terrarium. Other causes could be due to a bacterial infection.

Other members can probably give you further advice. Hope this helps and good luck!

Welcome to the Site!

And yes, those bubbles definitiely mean an R.I. Crank your temps to 88 in the cold end and 92 in the hot end and get him to a vet.

Is your substrate dusty? That also would be the cause.

Welcome to the site (I have also a Monty Python :p )

And about his breathing. Definately go to a vet. Mine had it a few months ago. I was lucky and got him to a vet soon enough. Now he's fine again.

Greeting and welcome on board. My name is Chuck and I live the southeastern United States. My main interest is North American pit vipers, but I also know a little about giant pythons. Let me know if I can be of any help.
