Hi all,
I own 2 T's (one has been posted here trying to figure out exactly what kind of T she is lol)
I HATE keeping crickets, I get 3 dozen for example and in one week there all dead other the couple used to feed
what Am I doing wrong
I keep them in a well ventilated decent sized container with egg carton peaces to have shelter and what not

I give them a few pieces of ice daily as I was told my a store to help keep them longer
yet they still die sooo quick its a shame to waste so much.

any suggestions?

also my 2 T's are pretty much adults now I heard alot of you saying you feed your T's F/T pinkies this would be GREAT how exactly do you feed them this? T's being ambush types and all?

Thank you very much for the info

I think the T's I have are a Zebra and a Pink Beauty Zebra
will post a pic each of them later today

Also how do I handle these guys ? the pink beauty seems docile but I am too chiken to pick her up by sliding her in my hand lol all I do is move my hand very slowly in the cage for her to see me then I touch her legs, she lets me just fine and don't attack/go into a strike position, she just sits there

my zebra/other T on the other hand is a Bi*** wow lol she has striked at me more than once, if i take a small piece of branch and VERY gently try to move her out of the way so i can clean her water dish and cotton thing she tries to attack the daylights out of it (grabs it and fangs it lol) but I move it out before she gets it. pretty funny in a way
I still love her and give her a good home though!

I can't answer about the tarantulas, but I can about the crix.

If you're caring for them right, it depends on where you get them. When I get mine from petsmart they die within a few days, but when I get them from another petstore they are fine until I feed them. Maybe you should switch suppliers?

Also, I'm not sure what the ice would do? I use that water gelatine stuff for water, and dog/cat food, carrot, apple, letture, carrot, fishfood, gutload etc for food. I keep them in a small critter keeper on rolled oats with piece of egg carton and they live until I feed them (a couple weeks?)

Thanks
Zoe

I have gotten mine from 2 places with the same results the last time I got them from a respectable store and I had the same results,

I live in Ottawa and it seems everywhere I go I am told they just ran out,

I am gonna try doing what you mentioned above maybe I get more sucess

one question : what exactly is the water gelatine stuff for water?

thanks again

I'm not sure what it's called... it's like Cricket Water or something. It's transparent gelatine, you just throw in a few chunks and it gives the crickets water without drowning them or making the tank too wet.

Hi Luc :)

I'm not really going to offer you any different advice for keeping your crickets alive then Zoe has already stated. I use about the same setup/food items as hers for my crickets.

I too live in Ottawa and I go through about 3000 crickets a week so I'm ordering in bulk from a supplier in Toronto and having them shipped in. When my collection was smaller, and was getting about 100 bugs a week, I too had a problem finding decent, healthy crickets here in town. What I did at the time was find out from the pet store what days they had their crickets delivered and go there and buy them that day or the next day to ensure I got them and they were "fresh".

If you would like, feel free to PM me for my opinions as to where to get the healthiest crickets in Ottawa. I don't want to get into a good pet store/bad pet store discussion on a public forum!

Hope this helps.
