When you go to buy a Honduran, what do you look for that will tell you if it will start tipping or not as it ages?

Thanks for any replies.

There is no real way to tell. Neonates do not always look like they will as adults. just look for one with a clean pattern, and bright colors, and hopefully it will stay that way. Good Luck.

I think your best bet if clean appearance is important to you is to know the breeder and the bloodlines behind the animal you are buying. Even then, there is certainly a chance that animals with minimal tipping will produce one that is more heavily marked, but I think that is the best way to improve your odds.

I have wondered about whether those with thinner black bands are less likely to show excessive black tips when they mature and have also heard that females get more black tipping than males, but don't know if either of those is true.

No matter what you choose, hondurans are great snakes, and some of us like the effect of black tipping. I think it is really nice to have in a line if you are thinking about mixing them with albino in the future because then the heavily tipped areas that are black in a normal will show up as white in the albino and that could look distinctive.

Hi Ace,
A friend of mine has been breeding Hondurans for many years, and he has told me that, in his experience, males TEND to be "cleaner" than females.
Sometimes he may get a female comparable to the males, but not very often.
So, basically I'd just recommend what the others are saying. Try to see the parents of the animal you're interested in, pick a pretty baby and hope for the best! Either that, or buy hypo's ;0)

Take care,

Simon

Thanks for the responses everybody!!! I'm going to a show tommorrow and want to get Angel probed. If she does turn out being a female (her tail looks more male) I want to pick up a hondo. If she's actually a male, I think I'll try to get another albino snow Calking. A true female this time!!!! Maybe both if the prices are right :D . Thanks again!
