I have to say she's a beauty, how big is the environment, because that looks to be the size of my monitor (about 2 feet) forgive me if I'm wrong

Yes the lizard is about 2+ feet, the photo was taken in my bamboo garden, its not here cage, the good thing about this specie they don’t run away from you, making it easy to photograph them outside.

About Finschii and thong coloration…

They use to be called Varanus Doreanus Finschii but I think Sprackland elevated them to Varanus Finschii, as they have nothing in common with Doreanus, all morphs of Doreanus have some kind of blue or greenish coloration on tail, Finschii do not! Also they are much smaller then the smallest Doreanus about a meter TL, they don’t seem to be related to Indicus and Jobiensis, at least not in every way, all the indicus complex have 2 distinctive trait they are flighty by nature and sleep with there tails coiled like a watch spring, not so with Finschii, all this complex ( Jobiensis, doreanud,Indicus,Finschii) use to be identifiable by thong coloration, this was before new localities where discovered, new studies have shown thong coloration to be reliable within a specific location, where population of 2-3 and sometimes 4 different species live together (sympatric) until few months ago, it was believed thong coloration to be a visual Q to identification by varanids in a mix population, however my latest study may demonstrate thong pigmentation to be more reliable as olfactory then visual, just like smell in different colour skin in Humans.
It was shown that these species sometimes share the same tree hollow, but inter breeding have never been recorded, such proximity who’d give these lizards plenty of time to recognise each other by sent alone, this who’d be much easier then color Identification in a dark tree hollow. Furthermore the tong is the first physical contact Varanids make when they encounter.

I still don’t know much about Finschii, but aim very motivated in working with them, maybe in a few year time I will have more info to share
