adequit size cages for snakes...

i have been wondering what size cages are adequit for snakes. like if they are too small or something. if any of you guys could help me out on good caging methods. thanx.

depends on what kind of snakes your trying to house....

Most people use the following formula for what sie snake can go in a certain size cage.....

take the length of the cage, add the depth (not the height) of the cage and the total is the longest snake that can comfortably be housed in that cage.

SO if you have a cage that is 4' long and 2' deep, then the max size snake should be 6'.

of course this is not for aboreals like ETBs of GTPs and the like.

Emerald Tree Boa's and Green Tree Pythons..... there both for the more experienced keepers... I hope to have a pair one day.

Generally you want the length of the cage at least 2/3 of the length of the snake. But honestly I would stick to something about 4 ft long to start off with and about 2ft deep. That'll get you by for at least the first few years of your snakes life, that is if you have a snake that's going to get large. If it is a smaller snake, ie: king snake or corn snake. Then about 2ft x 1ft may work well.

i have an 8 foot burmeses python know. it is being moved to a different home until i graduate. the cage they have should do ok. i'm going to build a lighter and better cage for him someday.

For an 8 ft burmese, I would reccomend probably a cage that is at least 8 ft long and 4 ft deep. A burmese that is already 8 ft will only get bigger and you want as big of an enclosure you can get for him.

General rule of thumb is 1 square foot of floor space per foot of snake...
