I think it needs to blow it's nose. :D I think those are some of the coolest snakes. Just because they are so unique! I always love seeing that their are people that keep less main stream herps.

i am just like Vanan. We both like the animals that are weard or hard to get or hard to keep alive. But he doesn't have vine snakes :P.
Very nice pic, looks like your snake is going to talk.

That is a really cool pic! I also like to the weird and hard to get animals, but don't really have any of my own. I did have that pure black blood python, but with my luck bad things happen :(.

the thing "sticking out of her mouth" is just a little "horn-like" thing on the tip of his nose which is just fleshy membrane, her mouth is actually just underneath that.

You mean it's not sonar! A little sonar antenna for catching bats! :D (jk)
Vanan was nice enough to bring down some hog noses to the Burnaby show for me to see. It was very cool! I had never seen one before in person!

Does anyone care to state a guess on where the evolutionary need for such a snout came from? I'm just curious as to know if their noses serve an evolutionary purpose, for example: catching rainwater, or camoflauge (breaking up shape), etc.
Beautiful specimen by the way.

It is just there for breaking up shape. I have been studying them for a while and I cant find any other reason for it to be there. unlike the Asian vine snakes. and the Genus of snake is (Langaha Nasuta) which is also called the madagascan vine snake or leaf nose snake. there are two different genus's on Madagascar of the leaf nose snake. langaha nasuta and langaha madagascariensis. they look much bigger in pictures than in real life. the one that I took a picture of is 2 feet long and as thick as a pen. so maybe now you can see why it was such a hard picture to take. and it moves really fast. its hard to take pictures with a rear fanged snake that moves quite fast and in one hand a camera. all in a days work:P.
