Just a couple photos to share of our newest corn - a striped normal female courtesy Reptile Gallery in Edmonton. She is settling in well and I figured I could disturb her for a photo or two today - she looks a little kinked around the edges because I just took her clay hide pot off of her. Lovely personality and we have a striped male to go with her next year. My favorite pattern and plan to introduce it to our creamsicles and amelanistics in the future.

So you want to throw her in on that deal this summer too Mary? LOL Or will I have to wait for babies? Very nice Mark I.

Thanks for the kind comments guys - and no this one isn't going anywhere - but my interest in stripes is what prompted me to contact you in the first place Mark!
I consider myself very lucky to have gotten this female. She is about 4 feet, I don't know age but a nice female in good condition. My striped male is a 2002 and just a little guy, so I may have to wait another year before he is big enough to handle the job. If he is not up to it next year, I will pair her with my creamsicle male to get the stripe gene into a line of creamsicles (sorry to the purists in the crowd - but I really like these creams).

Great striper she's a beaut.
As long as you represent them well I think it'd be cool to see how striped creamsicles turn out! Interesting idea!

Beautiful snake! Her colouring is great. I can't wait to see what you get when you breed her to the creamsicle. Thanks for sharing your picture.

Vanan - The decision to breed corns into the creamsicles is not one I take lightly because the first generation would all look like normal corns, unless this female happens to be het for amelanism, in which case there would be some amelanistics in the group. The oranges of the creamsicle seem to be supressed and the reds dominate in the early crosses, so it will be a long process to get the stripe pattern established and then the oranges back. I believe they would be very attractive snakes though.
In the meantime, there will be a lot of babies produced that look just like regular corns - and it is a real debate I am struggling with about whether to pursue that - what would I do with the offspring - is it right to sell them when I know that by the time they are mature and with the turnover of reptile pets, they may be passed off to anyone as a corn? Do I commit to keep or dare I even suggest to cull all the offspring that are not part of my breeding program? Potentially working with intergrade crosses that lose the distinctive look of creamsicles is an issue I haven't come to terms with fully yet - are there any other creamsicle or hybrid breeders out there with opinions?
Thanks Tara - she is a really pretty snake. At the very least I will be able to make more striped normals some day. Hope your new little guy is settling in well for you,

Very pretty... I hope my mom lets me get a corn snake. Hey... what's the real difference between a snake and a lizard? LOL! J/K!

Wow...that is just an amazing looking snake...actually both of them are but I always seem to favor the bright ones. I haven't seen one striped as pretty as that and yes her face is lovely! Let us know when one day you have babies....
Wow, nice... that striping is so complete.... hope I can find a couple amels this fall with a pattern as clear as that. Congrats on the new addition.
