update on tadpoles...

Well, here is an update on the tadpoles I wrote about a few weeks ago. I think they are spring peepers. What do you think?

The first froglet didn't make it. The tail went in about half way and then we found it dead. The second has been a froglet for about 3 days now. And the 3rd finally popped his legs through the week.

Oh, incase you are wondering what the frog is sitting on it is bloodworms. The tads love them!

I will be changing their enclosure today, they are in a 5 gallon, someone told me I should have them in a smaller tank till they get a bit bigger. The froglet is about the size of my pinkie nail and is eating pinheads. I also want to put them on a spagnum moss substrate with a small pool on one end, would this be better than the aquarium stones? Thanks for any advice or comments in advance. My daughter is so excited, she is one of the first in the class to get a froglet. I guess it's a bit warmer in our house. lol.

Keep 'em in a very very small tank for now, like you mentioned, 5 gallon is fine. Make a lot of hidin' spots for them to feel comfortable in. Dont make it very complex at first though, these frogs are still learnin' :P Keep food plentiful and things should be fine. Might wanna put some UVB on top of the cage as well :)

This morning, I myself colected three tadpoles from a pond at my country house. From the looks of it, I think that mine are either going to be spring peepers or grey treefrogs since those are the most common frogs at my country house and you rarely find any other species in the place where I collected them. Just like Cynthia, I am so excited!

Yeah Youkai...they look a bit like wood frogs although they look even more like common green frogs to me.

Hey guys. Thanks for all the replies. Do any of you know anything about wood frogs. I assumed it was a peeper because that is what the teacher thought it was. I don't know alot about frogs, only some basics. I only have one tree frog and these were my first tadpoles. lol, nice little mother's present from my daughter.
Anyway, I would like to know a bit about them, scientific name, where they live, are they found in the ponds much after they turn into frogs are they mostly in damp leafy areas? I will do a search on google as well, but anything anyone knows or any sites that have info would be great, when my daughter returns them next week, maybe she can take along a small info sheet for the teacher to read to the class. ;) Thanks all.

cool frog i just got one of those (exept mines about half the size of a computer mouse) mines in a huge planted cage on my porch the cage is about 5.5 feet long 1 foot wide and about 4 feet high its even got a little pond in their for him or her (a foot long .75foot wide and about 5or 6 inches deep) it loves it in there!!!! little guys happy as can be!!!! good luck with your froge are u going to keep them or let them go after a while oh and i almost forgot u should go to the pet store and pick up some mealworms (about 3cents a piece ) and see if it will eat yet(the froglet not the tads)
