lil summer project need help

Yo guys,
In the summer me and my cousin are going to make a reptile cage so that we can keep any herps we might find and keep for an hour. i was planning on making it glass with wooding sidings so we can examing them while they stay withus for a awile (we always put these little buetuys back just a little break from the bush. Anyone have any ideas on materials and any basic ideas on puttinig it otgther. we have anything from blue tongue skinks to Black rat snake to salamanders so I guess it's got to big water proof so it can hold any amphians with water. what the best kinda duriable glass? how long should it be? Also just wondering which do you think is better a home mad cage for your snake or a bought one?

use 2x2 wood to build a frame, then screw or nail (make sure the points do not protrude on the inside) plywood on 2 or 3 sides and plexiglass( available at a plastics store) on the other sides. the bottom should be plywood, and have a hinged plywood top if you are watching the cage whenever there is an animal in it you shouldnt need a latch. make sure all wood used is unpainted, unstained, not chemicaly treated, and sanded to remove splinters. put a 1-2 inch deep dish of water for the reptiles to drink and the amphibians to swim and change the water with every reptile to avoid disease infested water.

I would suggest using a rubermaid bin (with air-holes) of some kind. It's easy, light, water-proof and can be reused for any number of things.

Of course that takes out the fun of building something yourself. ;)

i would just use plexiglass with aquarium glass sealer and just have a screen top on it .

i would just use the extra 20 gallon i have lying around... but not everyone has that heh :p
