Hi there Lisa:

I build 6 of that type of cage unit to house snakes under 7 feet. And the controls you see on the top are 3 for heat and the one on the left is an override for the lights because the lights are on a timer on the back with other wiring and controls. The 3 heat controls are to heat up/down the radiant heat panels I use. With the left over wood on the 6 talls units I built 6 thinner long units that you kinda see on the left of the tall cage. I am not thinking up an cage system for my emeralds with misters and all. There small still but I want to start getting ready.

I overall built 10 of the tall cage units, sold for slighty different to a friends friend raising monitors lizards and buggies. Instead of 3 sections the bird cages were the full tall unit with lots of branches and little nests and bird life. The monitor lizards with 2 sections with branches and sand on the bottom and lizard life.

I, sold 4 cages this way at like $800.00 a unit, that including all the custom work they requested. My six I have for my boas and pythons are worth about $700.00 each being the electrical stuff costing the most. But building them was rather cheap, I got family in the lumber business so wood was sold to me at 30% regular price. And paints and finishing equipment I have friends in Home Depot with 40% discounts. And all my labour for myself is free. Each cage took me about 6 days to build. Everyday while working on all of them at the same time I would do 1 - 4 jobs at a time like sanding them all at once or painting and sealing and so on. Over all from day 1, I was finished 29 days. I was on holidays and made a nice penny on the 4 cages I sold.

I hope to make more because a few people show interest and I can always use a few extra bucks to fund my snow boa and green tree python future projects........lol........I hope.

That looks amazing Boa! I recently built a 16 cage leo rack, it works, but it's much uglier than yours. Even the dimmers look great on yours! :) Good job!

I too am looking into designs now on a rack system as well, gots lots of ideas but have not narrowed it down yet.

But the principle of the controls will also be morphed into the design of the rack. My rack will hold 3 sizes of tupperware tubs from shoe size to sweater box types. Plus I am designing my other cages for my emeralds once they can fit into them. Loads of ideas have have to decide or but hundreds of emeralds then.........lol.

eventually i either want to buy or make a unit but theyre so friggin expensive!

yeah i think if you built 1 of my units it would cost you around $350 Canadian with same building materials. After putting in lights/heat and misters and clocks and wiring and so on, the price goes up depending on the brands you use I guess.

Radiant heat panels from New York cost me the most then the controls to monitor it and so on. Everything else is in your hardware store.

Thank you for the kind words.

I am hoping to put together a build list on my cages from supplies to construction guide not quite complete yet, though.

As for your question on wood.

I used 3/4 inch plywood with 1 side good surface, its takes 4 sheets of this wood to complete 1 cages. From everything like the walls, bottom and top and the inner basking selves.

I am now configuring wood or other configurations for my future emerald tree boa cages I am building. One plan is to build these tall cages but on there sides with 3 equal sections but with the 3 sections with a removable dividers. Making it a 3 boa cage divided or a full cage for breeding or dividing 1 animal from the 2 others. Many ideas not sure what will be the constructed unit yet.

But there will be pics once I start to completion and so on.
