I have a small leopard gecko that seems to be annorexic (sp?)

She goes on a binge eating like a pig for a week or 2... but then refuses food at all for 2 or 3 weeks solid. She doesnt seem to digest well either because she is always skinny-tailed. I feed her mainly mealworms and waxworms because she always refuses crickets.

I was thinking of trying a dose of bene-bac... but I cant seem to track down a dosage guide. Does anyone here know the proper dosage for a small leopard gecko?

And if anyone else has any suggestions I would be happy to hear them.

Thanks!!!!!!!

Get her tested for parasites. Skinny tail and apetite issues are big symptoms of some kind of parasite. Make sure to give the vet several stool samples to work with and if nothing shows up in a regular fecal you might need to have a crypto test done.

She is one of a large CB litter... none of the others had any parasites or problems. I kept this one because she was born without a foot and I felt sorry for her.

The only way I could think of her getting any parasites would be through her food which is a possibility I guess, but not likely because nothing else I have has any parasites.

CB has nothing to do with wether or not it's got parasites. Tons of CBs have them even from the big reputable breeders. It's still possible especially if she was kept in a group. A lot of times parasites don't show up for a couple months. It's a good rule of thumb to have every new herp checked for parasites. A lot of times they are lurking and while it may not be bad enough to notice in one animal it can carry to another and get pretty bad. From the sound of it she's got symptoms.

Just a note... if she was born without a foot it's possible that other internal things are missing or aren't working right. Hope she feels better, let us know how she's doing! I agree with Meg, it seems as if she has parasites. You want to make sure she stays warm too! Consult your vet for an exam.
