I don't know if I got the name right but I just wanted to know if anyone has kept or keeps these right now. I went for a job interview at reptile zoo near my place and they keep a ton of venomous snakes and a huge rattlesnake collection and saw a pair of these when I got shown around. If someone could give me a little info on these that would be great I have never heard of them before and didn't think to ask about them when I was there.
Thanks
Steve
If im not mistaken that is the red spitting cobra. Highly agressive.

Actually, it is just is just a ssp of the Monocled, Naja kaouthia suphanensis. Basically the only real difference is locality and color variation.
thats why i dont do hots.lol
Not sure what info you wanted to know, so just though i'd post a picture
I know its not the best shot, but he was in breeding mode and would not sit still for me

this subspecies is from Thailand, a very beautiful snake with a "leucistic" appearance. Grow to 5-7 feet. They are noted for having extremely toxic venom. Suphans and other Thai animals are not exported from their native country anymore. All specimens available are from CB stock. The ones I've been around were...how you say...."in a chipper mood" ;)

Naja kaouthia "suphanensis" is not classed as a sub spicies to Naja kaouthia. It's just a "colorvariation" of the "ordinary" Naja kaouthia. It is often larger and more heavybodied than the dark phase, and often more agressive. You find the "suphanensis" in central regions of thailand.
The venom is highly dengerous, and is both neourotixc and hemotoxic, but alsow cytotoxic. This means that it will hurt your central nervsystem, your blod, and cause damage tissue.
Best whishes!

The "Suphan" Monacled Cobra is simply a phase of your more typical Naja kaouthia. There is no taxonomical difference. They are the same snake besides the color. The ssp was disregarded when Dr Wolfgang Wuster did his research on Asiatic Naja a few years back.
While on thje subject of Asiatic Naja, also keep in mind that blk paks, spectacle cobras and Sri Lakain Spectecled cobras are all the same sp, Naja naja.
For the most part, taxonomy seems to be leaning toward less ssp
and I belive you will find the same things happening to all of the African naja once alittle more work has been put into it. Watching what they do to Naja haje up will be most interesting!
Welp, hope this helps,
Jeremy

Yes, like Jeremy says, i'm really looking forward to when they are going to deal with the african naja's. Not just only the Egyptian cobras, but they have been doing some work with Naja pallida, The red spitting cobra, and divided it to Naja pallida, and Naja nubiae. For thoose hwo did not know! :D
Cheers!
