View Full Version : Advice please
I bought myself a beardie 2 weeks ago, my first lizard and she is a sweetie. The thing is she had an abcess on her back and I said to the seller I would get it removed so he sold her to me for 20 pounds. The vet has removed it and she is on baytril injections and doing well. This morning I woke up to 13 eggs I phoned the pet store and they said she was kept with a male for the six weeks they had them, he was sold 2 days before I bought her and they could be fertile! My mate has rushed round with an incubater and we have tranferred the eggs. They seem soft not overly though, they are all white and look okay but I have no experience with this. She had the abcess removed under anesthetic would this affect the eggs? Any advice would help, I want to do the best by them. Thanx

Wow that is so cool I'm no expert on the anesthetic thing but I hope the eggs are good.
I would worry more about the Baytril than the anesthetic, I've seen plenty of herps that were eggbound that only had the eggs still attached to the ovaries removed and oxytocin given to induce egglaying of the ones properly shelled and placed in the oviduct. The eggs usually did fine.
Baytril can possibly penetrate the blood/reproductive organs barrier and enter the eggs themselves. There are some reports of babies being born with no beneficial bacteria to help them digest and fight off illness because the mother had antibiotics when gravid. If they get a heavy enough dose it can also crystallize in the kidneys.
Most likely they will hatch out okay but it's good to watch them carefully as they might need some supportive care to overcome the side effects of the Baytril.
