Need help to I.D a lizard.
This guy is about 5ft long and seems to be part of a family that live in the bush behind my house on the coast in Queensland Australia. The two large ones "mum and dad " are around 6 to 7ft long and very heavy in build. We feed them and they are not shy at all but if you get close the old man will stand up on his back legs and run for you making this amazing hissing growling noise.
They steel my dogs food "she is very old and blind" bowl and all and I have to chase them with a stick to get the bowl back.
I was told they were a goanna but we get them as well and they are a different colour and dont have the black snout.
Help me out here please.

Rick.

Its a lacey goanna to be sure....they're large, smart, fast and crafty, so give up the dog food and enjoy their company....wish we had that problem here in California; we used to have grizzly bears here on coast as of 1922! But no more...all shot and killed...

Cheers,
