Their a endangered species here in texas in all of the U.S so its illigal to keep them. Though I don't know why their everywhere I see at least 10 a day probly more. I think you can keep them if you bought them as a baby from a breeder or a pet store I'm not for sure. But I do know its illigal to kill them, catch them or keep wild caught. reply to what you know on this subject I would love to know more.

You are right CyberGhost, the Texas Horned Lizard is protected and illegal to keep. But this is a Desert Horned Lizard, a different and legal species. There are a few different species of Horned Lizard and as far as I know the Texas Horned Lizard is the only illegal one to own.
To Melly18, if you have a constant supply of Harvester Ants they are quite easy to keep. A 20L and a basking spot of 105ºF is all that is really needed.

The Desert Horned Lizard is the Phrynosoma platyrhinos calidiarum, the Texas Horned Lizard is the Phrynosoma cornutum
I use this little pic to help identify the little buggers lol

drawing is supplied by by Eric R. Pianka and Wendy L. Hodges.
Both species can be found here in Southern New Mexico and Game and Fish will get very upset if you catch the wrong one lol.

To Colonel SB, only the Texas Horned Lizard can shoot blood out of it's eyes. So I do not have to worry about that! lol.

Colonel SB, they eat Harvester Ants which occur locally right by my house. I just gotta walk down the road a ways and there are many piles of them. Here is a pic of what they eat.

Also, this is not what they only eat. They also eat crickets and meal worm Beatles(his favorite).
Herp guy, this lil guy ran me a cool $15USD at the FIRE show. If I do well with his guy, I plan on getting a female for him at the Daytona show.
Totally cool little guy! :D You actually have your sucessfully taking crickets? I've only heard of less than a handful of people being able to get them on pinhead crix before, but one went off them again.
When I was a youngin (and I'm sure Rev will agree), there were lots of little Horned Lizards roaming around. Not too many anymore, but I kept two for quite some time. I actually found both of them in my driveway coming home from school one day. I kept them all through the summer and set them free just before the cold weather hit. Woulda kept them, but my mom was afraid they were the 'protected' kind. Heh, I miss those days. I was thinking of getting a Short-Horned or Flat-Tailed (I think these are proctected) but I'm still searching for places to 'hunt' them. (Here in New Mexico and I think some other states, you have to have a 'hunting permit' to collect them.) No hurry though.
He's an adorable little guy!

Wow.. I would have definately kept the Albino. You could have tried to start an albino line! That would have been awesome.
