It isn't age. Dealing with minors opens a whole can of worms. I would have made sure the parents were involved as well.

And while I would have to say the other person was being somewhat rude, I would have refused to hand the animals over as well. Parental persmission issues, but you were also talking about cutting corners on care, and giving the animals away. A phone call goes a long way to avoid misunderstandings. I'd try that instead of MSN next time.

As far as my dealing with kids comments, it is not the age, but the maturity issue. I have dealt with many early teens such as Jeff T. above & had no problems, as he is mature & conducts himself properly in business situations & has his parents support in his hobby. I do like to have the parents acknoledge the transaction & possibly be involved due to the fact that I'm an adult dealing with a minor though. There are lots of kids out there that do nothing, but waste your time also. It may be a game to some, but is serious business to people such as myself. All you 18 & unders don't need to be offended, but need to be mature enough to understand where people like me are coming from. If you can't understand you are not as mature as you think. I can't say who is right or wrong overall....but the part when you said, or even mentioned, giving one to your friend would have been the end of the situation for a lot of rescues. They are very serious about checking out the home, the situation, the enclosure, the life the herp will have. They don't take lightly to the idea the animal might be in *Another* pair of hands so soon, which they know nothing about.

I think if I was in the person's position, I would have kept the dragons as well. She was sort of rude but you kind of gave a bad impression by switching things around.

If you did not see the dragons and inquire about them before you made the deal, that was improper business fashion, and I get the impression you two had already touched upon a deal. Last minute questions are not a good thing in a case like this.

I think it was pretty even...JMO and don't be too offended by it if you can help it.

I wouldn't have adopted out the dragons either. The teen didn't seem to know what he wanted, at first it was the 2 dragons & tank, after only 1 dragon and still the tank then back to both dragons and the tank.

I know if I were adopting out animals that needed a good home, I would wan't it to be with someone who displayed a bit more stability.

The fact that it's a teenager doesn't sway my opinion much as I have met quite a few that were very responsible and adults that weren't. I just wouldn't give out beardies and a tank to just anyone.

It sounds to me like someone got pissed off because he didn't get free stuff.

LOL well yes, I would have to agree with what the majority is saying here. If you are adopting something that you know is sick, asking to take responsibilty, giving one to a friend probably isn't the smartest thing to do. I WOULD want to adopt an animal that is all messed up. It is really appearing to me that you want these for the cash value whether speaking of breeding or selling them. Someone who really loves herps would want to adopt an animal even more then regular if they were injured or unhealthy, because knowing we can make the herps life a better one is what we are in this for. Any herper, a responsible loving one at that, wouldn't care whether they got just one of the beardies or two, what is important here is getting them out of the hands of a irresponsible owner and back into flawless shape, to the best of our ability anyhow. It is this kind of thing that gives us younger then 18s' a bad name. Also please take time to spell out the words properly and take it easy on the ".....", it gets annoying and confusing after a while. There is my two cents...

Most reptiles for adoption ARE 'messed up' somehow. They aren't in the best of health, and in the best condition. Rescuers screen their buyers.

You wouldn't be adopting a healthy wonderful animal here. You'd be adopting something that needed lots of care, and probably vetrinary attention ASAP.

People adopting animals, and who DON'T just want a free animal, know what they are getting into. You just wanted free animals...

There is a post in the general forum here about reptile rescues. I suggest you read what the people say in that thread, and you may discover why you didn't wind up with those beardies.

If you expect to find perfectly healthy reptiles as rescues then what the heck are breeders and pets shops for??? I remember seeing the ad offering the dragons for adoption and it was mentionned in it that one was missing a tail and the other was stunted. They may be healthy in other respects but already you know that they aren't 100% even before contacting this person.

Now you say you didn't want the second because it didn't look healthy enough for your taste, but it's okay for your friend. I find that a bit suspicious! You want to adopt healthy herps and if they aren't give them to your friend?

Animals up for adoption are usually so for a reason. They have a need for special care, often vet care needed, the animals may be aggressive, etc.

And by curiosity, if money was not an issue, why the big deal over 20$ or not getting the tank if you were just taking one?

I'm not writing this to come down on you, you posted this thread asking for opinions and that's what I'm doing.

Nouse - she claims to run a rescue. And whether she has a profession or not, it's still important to be civil and professional when talking to people. When she was saying things like "Well me and my husband just decided not to, bye have a nice life" and typing in CAPS, that was a little immature. A more professional attitude would have been something like "Sorry, but you don't seem old or competant enough to take care of these. You keep changing the arrangement, and I am really not sure if you can correctly take care of these animals. Sorry, perhaps you should look into purchasing a healthy one."

Though, I don't take spelling and slang for character it does show someone who doesn't take the time to re-read their post for the community's sake.

I think it shows some courtesy and effort to try and write posts in a way that is easy to read by others. First impressions do count in some way and although you like to write and talk a certain way, it does not necessarily come out the way you would like to.

Again, I don't always judge by spelling and grammar but it does account for something.
