I seen this guy when he came from the importers as a baby and thought nothing of it. The people that bought it brought it back because he was getting agressive, imagine that. The petstore called me and told me it was back, so I looked at it and of course took it home. I have seen thousands of imported niles but none like this. Just wondering if anyone else has seen one like it.

Thanks B.W, as always.
He is really cool looking. I saw one yesterday at a show that looked similar to him. He had a blue tint to him. I almost bought him but changed my mind. Beautiful Nile and nice pics.
Weird. I've never seen one like that either.... almsot looked like someone spilled bleach down his side and couldn't get it off fast enough :p

It looks like an ornate nile to me, Varanus nilotics ornatus. My male looked just like that not quite as washed out but still same pattern.
That's not an ornatus. Just a regular niltic with some interesting color variation.. Nothing to out of the ordinary from what I've seen.
Looks to me like retained shed, has it grown at all?

What colour is the tounge?
thats a common nile, imported most frequently in the 90s. imported as egyptian niles, mark bayless would have a better locality for ya. trade name was also 'blue nile'. just sharing. -john
Yeah, blueish coloured niles come from Egypt and Nigeria too... it will turn out to be a beauty when its an adult. If the tongue is pink its an ornatue nile, otherwise its a common niloticus species.
cheers,

THAT'S WHY I ASKED ABOTU THE TOUNGE COLOUR. YOU CAN ALSO LOOK AT THE # OF ROWS OF OCELI BETWEEN THE SHOULDERS AND HIPS.

It is not inornatus it has seven bands and a black tongue. I have worked with plenty of adults that had a good deal of blue. But the blue came in as they got larger. This one is about 4 months old and does not have a bit of yellow. It looks like a stone washed blue. I see new niles every week but never one like this.
Thanks for the replys. I can't wait till it groes up to see the finished product.
p.s. it is not stuck in a shed.
