Im getting a lizard tommorow and don tknow which one to get.At my local pet store they only have commom animals such as,geckos, savannas, iguanas(which im not to fond of),and others.Im looking for a cheaper type of lizard(Im a kid and only have 20.00 to spend tommorow).
I have a 10 gallon tank right now with repti mulch,1 heatrock, and a branch to climb on(like all of my setups). But I am willing to get a larger tank very soon.
I like lizards that are large and longed lived, something that I could feed crickets woth the occasinal rat.I dont like iguanas at all(as they are always aggresive to me,and I dont like to put my hand in there tank as they always whip me with there tails).
Im thinking about getting a savvana lizard....can someone please help me???

Just a suggestion, but maybe you should research before you take on a new lizard :)

It's mighty tempting to just go out and get one (they're RIGHT there at the pet store, after all)

Do you have any other lizards as of yet? Or just the ball python?

Geckos all have different care requirements, so you'd have to be more specific....

Savanah Monitors and Iguanas are DEFINATELY not beginner lizards...

It is in the best interest of the animal that you take some time before buying it...please do :(

Don't just rush out and buy it because it's available...it'll still be there after you've taken the time to learn how to give it them best home/life possible.

I do not have any lizards at this time but have kept iguanas in the past.

um...Tokays? LOL

No way dude.....

If you REALLY like them....do the research.....it's worth the tiny bit of extra time to keep the animal happy and healthy.

on the home page there is a search engine or you can use something like yahoo or google.. Just type in Tokay Gecko and you will find LOTS of info.. Heather (punkuponastar) is right, do some research before you buy your new lizard. The last thing you wanna do is bring the little guy home and find out your setup is TOTALLY wrong.. And just so you know, Tokay's are MEAN. Not exactly something you will be able to handle.!! :) Good Luck with whatever you purchase..

One other thing. You mentioned you have hotrocks in all your seups. BAD idea. Hotrocks will be quick to burn a herp, and badly. Even the kind that say they are safe and have no hotspots are not safe enough to keep in the enclosure with your herps.

If you want a lizard, I'd highly suggest a Crested Gecko or Leopard Gecko. They are quite easy to care for, handleable, and just all around great for beginners. Most pet shops have one or the other. If yours doesn't, check around - there is usually more than one pet shop in an eare, or you can mail-order either species easily, from a reputable breeder.

Let us know how the research goes, and keep us updated on your decision!

You’re not listening to any of the advice given.....Just about everyone here would highly discourage people on impulse buying. You should do some research on the tokays before you buy one...you’d quickly find the answers to any of the questions you’ve asked here....and I’m sure there would be a much better outcome with the pet afterwards.

Like Matt K said, go to google and look up some care sheets....they’ll really help...and possible give you some ideas if this is really the kind of lizard you really want.
