I'm going to take the plunge and buy one of these...a northern. I'm wondering what people think about substrate for them. I'm a little wary of using anything but newspaper. What does everyone esle use? I want something digestable if possible, but I'm not a lizard person - as you all know - so I need some opinions on this. Thanks!

I have always used aspen shavings with no problems. I have been using them for the last couple of years w/my bt, and he loves crawling in it. Although, the first year and half he was w/me, I used newspaper. Bts love newspaper, because they love to crawl through the layers of it. It seems to be fun for them. It irritated me, however, because he would bunch it all up in a ball in the middle of the cage. I have not used any other substrates for bts. Don't use any kind of bark substrate, I've heard the bts are sensitive to it. But I can't say personally because I've never tried it. Excellent choice for a lizard, by the way!

Any of the Repit bark type product will be fine, plus they look natural.
