repcal - Beardied dragon Diet

Just wondering who all uses this? I was at a store near my house last night and they did not have the juv. diet, only the adult. They did have small pelletted food but it was not specifically for any certain kind of reptile had a pic of a beardie on it but I figure that could just be misleading. I think that stuff was jerassi diet or something like that. When in my original plan I was going to just feed assorted insects and greens. But would like to try this pelleted food out. Is there a difference between the juv. and the adult food that rep cal offers other then just the size? If I where to break the larger pieces up and use them would there be a problem? or are they both formulated differently for the different stages of growth?

Hi Adam,

I use Rep-Cal juvie food and adult food.. no diff other than size as far as I've seen.. I chopped the adult stuff up and they eat it and are growing fine..

The juvenile formula has slightly higher protein content but otherwise there's not much difference. I bought one of my beardies from a breeder who has theirs totally off crickets by the time they are around 6-9 months old and they feed strictly Rep-cal pellets and salads. He's the hardiest of my beardies and this breeder has an excellent reputation for large and healthy dragons so I think they must be pretty good.

thanks for the response :) If the beardie eats the adult food (choped up) would it be good to also add vitamins to add more protien? or would hte pellets be enough? I'm also going to feed crickets and butter worms along with greens.

i feed mine the pellets they have ate them since they were babies. And other than size i haven't seen to much of a differnce. The only thing is my 2 are picky they will only eat the green ones i also break the adults pellets in half. if i put in the yellow or red they will stomp through their food dish (lol)(i use the yellow and red to gutload my crix). But i still feed them a varied diet other than the pellets. EX. kale, collard, mustard, turnip greens, Various fruits(luckly i have a friend that works at a produce store and brings me all kinds of things), crickets, waxworms, pinkies, greenbeans, carrots, ummm and other things cant think of everything off hand. and when i do feed crix. i dust in calcium and vitamins. i will link to a site that will also give you a list of edible and toxic plants for beardies. And remember variation is key.

Thanks all for the replies! My GF actually stoped at a different store on the way home from work and was able to get the juv. diet :)
