Hi There,
Actually, I have four of the emperor newts (Tylototriton shanjing). I've only had them a few months but they are great, very vivid orange on brown/black. I'm not sure of genders, but two are definitely fatter than the others. I keep them in a 30" vivarium that is planted with ferns and driftwood at one end and a small pool at the opposite end (this end could be flooded to a depth of 6-8 inches . . . something I'll probably do if/when they look like they might breed). Emperor newts are mainly terrestrial, liking it quite dry at times (not what you'd typically think of in a "newt") although they do enter the pool for a dip fairly regularly. Right now they don't seem to want to eat anything but crickets, they won't touch the earthworms I've offered but I keep trying). I'll try to get a pic up in the near future, if I can borrow a digital camera for a day.
