Hey,
I have been building my cage for my burm for about 5 days and today when i went to go get ply wood i got stumped on what kind of sealer would be best. What is a good sealer for the wood on the cage who makes it? and where can i get it?. Also what would be the best way to heat a cage it is 8x4x3.

P.S. i know this sould probly be under cage construction but no one checks that.

Have you thought about using plastic laminate, the kind they use for countertops. It is cleanable and there is no toxic residue.

When I have to seal something for a cage I use industrial enamel and let it cure for a couple of weeks. No matter what you paint your cage with the smell takes a long time to dissipate.

There is a new acrylic paint out that is less toxic but it takes just as long to cure out and get rid of the smells.

After letting it air out for a couple weaks close the lid overnight and lift it the next day and stick your head in and see if your eyes water. Sometimes the smell seems gone but once you put the reptile in and add heat it comes back. This is why I have went to plastic laminate and the plastic doesnt rot and is impermiable to water.

To heat the cage depends on the temperature of your room. I keep my room around 80 and just use heating pads for a basking spot. A lot of people use heat lamps but I despise them, I have seen to many reptiles killed by them because people were to cheep to buy a good thermostat. So another alternative to heat lamps is radiant heat panels and they work good and use a lot less wattage than heat lamps. But I would still recomend a thermostat.

Cool,
i went to a good paint store and got a specal non-toxic seeler. it was like 30 bux though aloth more then i thought but better safe then sorry. i think i will be using head tape for this because i have so many other reptiles in my room with lamps and pads and what not it stays pretty warm in there. and by the way ill go with the thermostat. thanx for the help though
