I used to have one about ayear ago and sold him for 100$ // not shure what their value is though ..
U do know their size potential right?

Yes, I am aware that there have been cases of them getting to 6-7 ft and possibly more. I'm just trying to find out EVERYTHING I can; I'M NOT RUSHING IN TO ANYTHING.
P.S.-Did you get yours from an Eastern Canadian breeder?

i just seen two yesterday at port credit pets here in ontario and i believe they were around $260and$360 but these were not babies there around 2-3 feet.
i have a male he is abuot 5 ft and dog tame i bought him from port creidt pets a couple years ago was a little nippy when he was small but has great temperment now the bigger he get the better he gets >(
Actually I go him for free from someone who did not want him anymore b/c of his bad temperement ..
I keep him for a year and after getting bitten reall bad on the finger I found him a new home .. (he fragmented my finger..)
I had been offer 300$ for him from a guy in Alberta but decided to sell it to someone I knew so this wy I could keep in contact .. Unfortunetly .. he died a year ago from unknow cause ..
I was pretty mad about it..

hey,
sorry to say but i had the same dream of owning one. than i found out they are illegal. ya it sucks. well yes they are illegal as oin you can't keep them but who will need to know. Your best bet is to go to BC, not sure if they are legal there but its worth a try. well sorry if i burst any bubbles.

hey,
dom, no I do not have any monitors, i was gong to get one about 3 years ago but i decided to go with a basilisk instead. I personally hate the alberta laws for keeping larger monitors or snakes. i would die for a nile except they are illegal as well. Probably your best bet for a monitor here is either going with some of the smaller species.
ya, i built this sweet enclosure for a smaller monitor after i found out most the the species i like were illegal and now its a basilisk tank. it 6 feet long 3 feet high and 2 feet deep. i wish i went with the peach throat oh well.

Thanks
Dom
Hey Hostile I too was going to get a large monitor(nile) but after researching it on another forum (kingsnake) before i found this one i was talked out of it.
I do not regrete it somtimes our eyes are bigger than our habitats.
but if you have the room and do all the research( theydo eat a lot more than youre average lizard) then go for it they are legal here and Niles go for approx $180.00 in some pet shops.
email me if you want the private dealers i know of a few sites that would probably ship you one.
But what ever you decide take your time and do the research.
good luck

Hey Sungazer,
What does it involve to get one of these wildlife shelter cards? Is it just a matter of process, or is there a dollar figure involved?
ANY REPLIES WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.

yeah there is a dollar amount to get it and tones of paper work but if you can it (very hard) it is soooo worth it
I am glad to hear it is difficult to get. Just curious - does the paperwork test knowledge about the specific species? Or is it more just formalities?
Jaylyn
yeah please tell us more about this card
lance
I am really interested too Sungazer ...
Please share you knowledge!
Lol
