What is the best light source for leos? Would it be a dome light with a 60-70 watt bulb? Incandescent light bulb? I'm just wondering what all of you use out there....and are UV lights bad for these fellas??
what about using blue lights, or red?
thanks for any help!!
Well, fluorescent lights are great... they make bright light, last forever, and don't get very hot. But an incandescent bulb is fine too, if its outside the tank, even a 40W one will do for just light.
UV lights won't hurt them, but they useless as leos are diurnal.

well i dont bother with any fancy lighting because well leo's dont need it due to the fact they are diarnal i just usehouse hold bulbs and use the apropriate watt its alot cheaper and does the job just as good and uv lighting is not needed with leo's

I use the red 50watt lights. If you have a heatmatt, the heatmatt plus the red light gives the perfect ammount of heat (if you live in a very cold place, like me.). UV lights, in my opinion, are OK but don't generate much heat...it just makes it pettier to look at a sleeping gecko with it.

I'll echo the UV thing. They are expensive and not really worth it since Leos are nocturnal. However they have been helpful to some people with non-feeding Leos (UV stimulates apetite) but you get a lot more of it from the sun and sunshine is free!

I would like to second what Alicewave said. They can often stimulate the appetite of a non-feeding leo, but are not necessary as the little guys are nocturnal. I would go with a regular flourescent light, I like the ones meant for plants as they give off a blue based light rather than yellow like regular flourescents. It makes the leos colors look much more natural, in my opinion.:D

i live in a cold basement so i have to use 2 - 150 watt Infra red light bulbs. If they are out at the store and i need one i will by the ones that are supposed to mimic the moon or some other kind of night light. and i do regulate day and night by a flourescent bulb. And like they have said above leos don't require uv rays. Which is nice cause the bulbs i buy for my beardies gets kinda expensive when you have to switch the bulb 2 times a year.
