small :confused: Hey im a 14 guy who wants first lizard NOT A SNAKE. Ok so i heard chamelions are stress bombs so that takes them out . I want him/her to be like i dont care if anyone holds me, and please make him/her a vegetarian, cause my mom cant stand crickets or worms. Oh ya i live in NV so it gets PRETTY hot (90-120') in the summer break out the ac:cool:

Hmm...that's a tough one. I'm really a snake person, but I'll try to help you out. One option is to search Google with keywords like "lizard care sheet vegetable" and see what you come up with. I'm no expert, but I believe most lizards eat crickets or some other invert at some point in their lifespan. Iguanas are an exception to that, but they *do not* make good pets for most people, and especially not as a first lizard.

Personally, I wouls say either an Anole or a Bearded Dragon would be good lizards to start with. I'm not sure about the Anole, but Beardeds definitely do eat crickets. Maybe the best thing would be to talk to your mom about her aversion to inverts. I have a Monitor lizard who eats crickets and an occasional wax worm, but I don't keep them in the house. My local pet store gut loads their feeders, so I just buy them a few at a time when I need them. I have a bag of ten crickets on a shelf at home right now...but that's about as many as I ever have at a time. If you have a garage or shed you could keep them there. Crickets don't really chirp much, eiher, so they're not as noisy to keep as you'd expect.

Go with an Uromastyx.

Wanting a completely vegetarian lizard narrows things down a bit. As SnowSnake suggested a Uromastyx would be a good choice, also a desert iguana I think could meet your needs. It is smaller than a green iguana staying between 14-18".

Type in vegetarian lizard in search engines and read up on a few care sheets.

or an iguana,but they get 3-4 ft sometimes 5,i know because i have 1.hes about 2 feet and eats 1 fourth lettuce head and 20 small carrots a day.
i would go with the anole if you dont know much about lizards.they dont require much and are fun to have.hope this helps

you can go with uramostatyx or chuckwalla's they both are vegitarians and need lots and lots of heat

Uromastyx is a good choice i have a Mali and a Orange Uromastyx
but keep in mind that they also like the thing's your mother don't like (crickets , and other little bug's) All lizards eat the odd crickets and things Good luck when you get your new lizard :)

garterguy... I hope you are not feeding your iguana iceburg lettuce. It has absolutely NO nutritional value. Your iguana needs a much more varied veggie diet as well (corn, beans, dark green leafy veggies, etc.). Iguanas do not make good beginner pets. They will reach 6 feet and have attitude problems sometimes.

Yes, Uro's will eat bugs once in a while. Giving crickets as a treat is good. You can also put an aloe plant in with it and it will nibble on it as well :)

There is one breed of Uro that has a bad attitude, I don't remember if it was the Egyptian :dumb: Do more research, most Uro's are quite friendly with an awesome personality.

no no no i do not feed it iceburg lettuce.i give him a type of lettuce called Kunzu lettuce,it is very high in nutrition but it is expensive.and i am not a beginner.DO NOT give your iguana beans or corn!they are too high in protein and will shorten an iguanas life 5-6 years due to kidney faliure and can cause growth stunts.spinach leaves,carrots,brocoli.Kunzu lettuce,pears,squash and occaisonal calcium pellets is what i use and after a year he is already 2 and a half feet long and knows how to shake!

Sorry garterguy if I took your post out of context. You said lettuce and carrots, and didn't specify what lettuce. I hadn't heard that about corn or beans, but when you add the fruit as well as bulk veggies and dark greens, then corn or beans would be in a small amount anyway. Would even a such a small amount be so dangerous?

Corn or beans are okay as rare treats but not something you should give often due to the high protein, as garterguy said. Beans (legumes, not green beans!) also have very high phosphorus and so you need to adjust for calcium carefully when feeding beans.

hehe do not feed it any beans or corn what so ever even the slightest bit can cause problems iguanas produce their own special protein and when they are fed a different kind it causes there kidneys to work to hard and they flat out stop.

Gargoyle gecko's??? They eat some insects, but mostly fruit. I don't have a lot of experience with them, but 2 of my three are extremely tame, and content to sit in my hand, or on my shoulder. They require much cooler temps though, and there is not a lot of info on their care.

i have never kept either but i know people who have them and i havnt seen any agressive ones yet and im sure if u did have one that was a bit agressive handling it lots would calm it down
