Hello everyone, great fourm you have going here. I have a 4 month old red blood that always seems to have shedding problems. Its only his head. I mist the tank 3 times a day and soak him in a warm bath once a week. Everytime he sheds he has problems with getting it started I guess. Tried increasing the humitity, does not seem to help. When I soak him with shed aid he keeps his head out of the water at all times so it does not seem to help. Any help would be greatly appricated, thanks, Potts:}:confused:

Can you please explain what kind of problems he has on his head. Why do you think that it is a bad start ?

Does your enclosure hold the humidity well? If its just a screen top you could cover it part way. What type of substrate do you have in there? I soak mine once a week for an hour or so and haven't had any shed problems.

Put in a humidity box, we use rubbermaid containers, hole cut in the side, newspaper and paper toweling kept wet... they climb in, burrow in the papers and towels and shed perfect everytime. Our bloods also loved a large container of water to swim in. Some folks use moss in their humidity boxes, but ours didn't seem to care for it for whatever strange reason, but the humidity box is the way to go with bloods and you could install a misting system. I used a pond pump with a length of surgical tubing in a water bowl and let it bubble, that was a cheap solution that they seemed to love.

I have in a 33g tank with heat lamp and undertank heater. I use about 2 inches nature bark with another 2 inches of moss on top. The whole cage is misted 3 times a day with a hand held sprayer. Temp, are 88 during the day and 78 at night. The blood seems very lazy, and does not move around to much. He gets all his shed off except the very top of his head. It drives me crazy. I have a log and two rocks that he can use for shedding in the tank. Thanks for all the reply's take care, Potts:}
