As some of you know, my male Rosy went on a 5 month fast through last summer and mid fall. I'm concerned now that he may be at it again. He has refused the last two meals although he has come out looking interested and would bite and contrict the mouse and then sniff it around for a bit and then decide not to eat it. I really hope this isn't the begginning of the same trend. He survived the fast with really no ill effects at all. A friend of mine suggested that maybe his native land, in the summer it gets too hot to ever come out to feed. It just seems weird. This is the same time he went off feed last year. I have not changed anything with his husbandry, the feeders are the right size. Any thoughts?
How do the conditions in your home change during this period? Snakes being nocturnal, typically feed at night in the wild, hence it isn't too hot (especially since it cools a fair bit in the drier, desert-type environments that many localities of rosies inhabit). Perhaps you guy is stuck in some sort of backwards brumation ... usually when rosies go off feed it's in the coller months instead of the warmer months. I really have no idea why your guy isn't eating, those are jsut a few far thoughts. I don't try to figure out exactly why snakes go off food if they are otherwise healthy (and is not related to time of year or breeding behaviour). Just as long as they are not losing a lot weight then there isn't really too much to worry about. Sometimes snakes just aren't hungry...

Yeah I'm not too worried. He was getting to be a fattie anyway so maybe it's his own way of regulating his weight. The temps really haven't fluxuated that much so I'm more tempted to think it has to do with his weight or with season.
