Need Help

I have a bunch of pets but today I saw all these little bugggs crawling around my turtle tank. I have had the turtle for about a year and have not introduced anything new to the tank.

All of a sudden all these little bug appear. They are super tinny and the things jump. They are a beigh colour. I can't see wings but they are too small toreally tell. I am concerned they are mosquitos (westnile style). Since the weather has been nice lately, and the windows open, you get the point right?

I've moved the turtle to a safer environment that is uninfested.

Regardless of what bugs they are I want a way of killing them all without posing a threat to future inhabitants of the tank, while maintaining a bugfree appartment.

I have florida tree frogs in the same room as well as 2 fish tanks. The bugs seem to like the water.

I NEED TO STOP THIS PROBLEM NOW BEFORE IS MOVES FURTHER.

If they ARE mosquitos then adding some minnows, guppies or goldfish can take care of the problem in the turtles tank. They will eat the larvae.

Screening any open windows might help

windows got screens but you can't get em all. Good idea on the guppies, will try.

I'm looking for something of a chemical nature that will ensure the descruction of the pests on personal level. Inside and out of the tank needs to be pest free. I can't have these things messing about.

Worried that a pesticide salesman will just give me the strongest stuff.

Heard somewhere that when you get these things on plants you are supposed to spray them with dish detergent diluted with water.. . . . .. . . .. . .

Maybe some fly paper on the top of the enlosure would help

can anyone give me the name of a SAFE PESTICIDE. Fly paper isn't going to do what I want it to.

We are trying to give you safe ideas but i guess they are not any good so maybe a can of RAID is more up your alley

Well is it possible to just take the tank and clean everything in it with bleach or by boiling? If so Im sure that woud kill the buggers. It sounds like they are springtails but I could be wrong.

I think a product called Safer soap is totally safe you can buy it at any place with a garden section. It kills plant mites, white flies, thrips etc. I would not spray it near the frogs though and rinse everything well after use. Ask a person at the store what kind of chemicals are in it though first.

I think I know what these little bugs are.

I've had them in my tanks, and I've seen them at both pet stores I've worked in. Often haning out on the lids to aquariums where it's nice and wet.

They do not harm anything. They are just kind of irritating for the keeper. Small fish will eat them, stuff like that.
I wouldn't take it so far as to use chemicals on them.

To my knowledge, there are no "safe" pesticides, unless they are natural, organic ones, such as plants in nature that naturally repel insects. Any pesticide you use can be harmful or fatal if not approved by the FDA for reptiles, amphibians, etc. Even those use chemicals, so be sure if it's approved for one thing, it's ok to use around your other animals, or remove the others for awhile during and after use. was talkin with a landscaper and she said that bugs are repelled by salt or peper.
does any one know of any other plants that repel bugs?

I've used Safer Soap on my ficus (that died...not from that though) when I had all kinds of aphids...but I wouldn't want to use that stuff in a vivarium! At least remove the plants, and rinse them REALLY well before they're replaced...but it's not a good idea to use that stuff with animals.

How big are these bugs? I've got springtails in some plants...they're hard to see and when they jump they appear to disappear. They're not a big deal. They're actually beneficial.

What makes you think they're mosquitos?
