When buying........????????

Hey everyone!

I was just wondering, when i go to get a leoparrd gecko adn i choose which ones i want to get (i want to get 2) what should i look for, for it being a good healthy gecko. I have already read that the ones that you pick out should be aware. What other advice can you guys give me??

When you try to pick it up, it should try to get away(very squirmy)

You should look for fat healthy tails, bright eyes, no cuts or missing tails, good shedding(no pieces of skin built up on the toes, head or tail) and be sure there are no mites either. And they should try to run away when you touch them, like Reptilez said. Be sure to ask what it is currently eating, that way you know what it likes best to start off with.:D Just remember, if you buy some now, you'll have 20 before the shows start up next year(highly addicting!) lol Good luck.

i always pick the one with the fatest tail and the most agressive and squirmy it usualy means they are realy helathy o and usualy the biggest one outta the bunch is good it means its the best eater

Their eyes should be shiny and wet. If the eyes are dry, chances are that the gecko has parasites or is dehydrated. Also, check to see what they are housed in. If there is sand as a sustrate and are fed crickets, your gecko mght have an impaction. So just keep those things in mind.

Tim and Julie covered it. If you want two and you don't want to end up with 20, get two females so they don't breed on ya.

No actually i would prefer a male and a female so they will breed, lol. Besides i wouldnt be able to tell what sex they are when they are babies anyway.

well theres a good chance they will both be females anyways, as most breeders incubate females. but you should separate them after a bit because you wont want a female breeding too young. it could actually die from it if it isnt fully matured.
just make sure youre all ready for breeding way before you attempt it

Actually, I meant that you'll probably end up buying a whole lot more once you spend time with them! LOL :D I started out with one as a pet and by the end of the summer I had 4 and then I went to my first reptile show and bought 6 more and then I bought some advertised in the paper and then there was another show and I bought some more......wow, I need leos-anonymous! I agree, you NEED a pair. That's just my bias ..(*crazy gecko keeper response*) opinion. lol
