Hello John! :D

Let me the first to welcome you to the site. It's always good to have more chameleon owners around here and I look forward to some good discussions with you.

You have some lovely Panthers! Particularly that male Ambilobe! I'm hoping to import some in the very near future. Have you had them very long? I'm also assuming you are doing some breeding with those pairs?

Cheers!

Trace-

Thanks! Yes I will be doing some breeding with the pairs I have now. They are all young still, under 12 months. I was very careful with the bloodlines on my CB panthers, and I hope to get some awesome looking offspring, especially from my Sambava's. I know the Ambilobes will be amazing, and I hope to get more WC pairs this summer, if they ship any out due to the quota, I think it is 2000 panthers this year! The Ambilobe locale is amazing, and there color potential is off the wall! The ambilobe pair I have now came in with the last shipment to fill quota, they are de-wormed and there wounds from the wild are healing nicely with each shed. They are all housed like kings, huge all screen cages, automatic misting system, jungle of live plants in each cage, bio vines to walk on, mercury vapor UVB bulbs, natural sunlight, all the silkworms they can eat, and vitamins and calcium additives!

NO NO NO

They MUST be housed by them self out of view from any other chameleon or animals for that matter in an all screen cage no glass or reflective surfaces where they can see there reflection. Doing so will cause stress on the chameleon and kill it among other things. My Ambilobe especially doesn't like other chameleons. I paid a pretty penny for all my animals, you get what you pay for!

I agree John! Chams are the most evil, foul tempered beasts around! Most do not want to be handled. I have some baby Veiled's here that will lunge at my face if I hold them. It's terribly cute now, but I don't look forward to that when they are full grown.

That being said, I have a few singular chameleons that quite enjoy coming out of their cages on a daily basis. They beg for it! They scratch at the door to be let out. There is one sitting on top of my computer monitor right now. These are the exceptions.

Cheers!

Chameleons are not a lizard that like to be held allot. Some will except it and some won't, but you should always keep the handling to a minimum. I tame mine by hand feeding them, it is more of them getting use to me around there cage. They all have different personalities. I only handle them when I need to move them outside or clean there cage, or take there picture! I don't walk around with them or hold them for long periods of time.

The males will fight over the territory, and quite bitterly as well. Eventually the weaker male will run off to find another area to dominate. The females will generally ignore each other.
