Anyone notice that there isn't as many Blood breeders in this country as there should be? Couple years ago, there were babies everywhere, and now, there's only a couple of people breeding them. What gives?

Grant, when are yours going to be ready to go?

Jeff,

A friend of mine was producing Red Bloods buy the bucket load and he couldnt' sell them so he got out of them. As far as I know the adults haven't been bred since. Also, Clint and Ken Taylor downsized their Borneo collections so that doesn't help either. I've got a 4 year old Red female so maybe I'll get a male and try breeding her this season.

I think you should Corey. I am definitely seeing waaay less Bloods around than I did 2 or 3 years ago. I'm sure there is a market there that hasn't been tapped.

I have pondered on this issue for a while now....and many "old time" herpers have told me that they new ppl who used to breed them and just could not get rid of them.....

Theres a few reasons for this....Due to the size and/or type of snake they are, many municipality by laws restrict the keeping of these snakes....also, myths of temperment....and possibly the lack of interest in a robust boid....

And probably the biggest! would be the lack of morphs/phases or whatever u wanna call it...with this species of snake...many ppl these days want a snake they can play around with (genetically speaking) part of the reason ball pythons are sooo popular along with corns....

So this is my goal.....get some nice sized/unrelated breeding groups, produce some nice norms of all ssp..establish a name for myself and educate others on the beauty with this species....

Then tackle the albino's etc...within a few years i hope...

I'm only 20 so i got some time....:D

If no one wants to by them....well then i'll just keep them as pets and breed minimal, and just have a collection like the Barkers one day.......

It doesn't bother me....but i'd like to increase the amount of CB P. curtus' and lets face it i cant keep and house all the offspring, so it would be nice if there were ppl who would like to buy them....

I'll probably get a 3-4ft borneo female in a few month (well, the guy I talk to told me he'll have one). WC of course but it's the only thing I can find. So, depending on the female health, I may attemp to breed them next year, for sure in two years.

About a yeard ago, every petshop had a blood. Now, they all still have one, the only problem is that it's the same snake!!! They just don't sell here:(

Hum....the albino....amazing snake!!!

Does anyone know what happen with the Ivory???

With captive breds being available, we aren't seeing these huge, aggressive snakes that are impossible to deal with. Bloods can be totally tame and they really aren't that big. I'm sure all that early literature (mostly Reptiles magazine) scared a ton of people off in the early days. Just think of Bloods as a big red Ball Python!

I just picked up a pair of young brongersmai and would most likely buy another pair if they were to become available.
I've had a bad experience with a wild-caught blood python, and that put me off them for quite a while and that's what I think part of the problem is, that these snakes have just gotten a bad reputation which the captive-bred ones really don't deserve.
They've got a lot going for them. I really don't think there's a more imposing animal than a large, healthy, colourful blood python.
Let's educate people about how wonderful these snakes are.

There sure aren't enough breeders of short tailed pythons out there. *sigh* One day I will find a pair of borneos......................
