Hi! My husband and I are travelling to Edmonton in the near future to visit my brother-in-law in the University hospital. I have never been to Edmonton. Can any of you recommend some interesting pet stores to visit? I am not planning on buying, I just like to view different things. Where I live, there really is not much around to view reptile and amphibian wise. I would like to see some of the creatures that are often posted about in real life. Any suggestions about places to see, especially those that might be close to University hospital?
Thanks,
Tara

Damien Aube. has a store in the Edmonton area, sorry the name of the store doesnt come to me.....sorry Damien....lol
Seems to me that there aren't too many stores in the Edmonton area.....not worth visiting anyways.
Damien is a member on this site. Just look him up. I'm sure he will email you with directions to the store.

If you are coming next weekend, there is the Calgary TARAS Spring show and Sale that would be worth the drive.

Damien's store is called AK Exotics. It's Downtown on Jasper ave and about 120th street.
I would definetly recomend the TARAS show if you have a chance.
The Edmonton Reptile Society Meets on the 20th this month. You are welcome to come if you want.
PJ's pets has a lot of reptiles but they are kept in very unsanitary conditions. I don't recomend going there just to see the animals.
The Valley Zoo has reptiles. I have not been there in a long time but I'd say it's worth a visit.
Have fun and I wish the best for your Brother-in-law.

Mike has covered most of the info - definately feel welcome to attend the Reptile Society meeting if you will be in town that week. It is not too far from the university - e-mail me for directions to the meeting. There is usually a "show and tell" at each meeting and members have several there to how off. I think one member may be doing some probing of snakes at the next meeting, so there could be quite a few there.
The P.J.'s (on Calgary trail and in West Edmonton Mall) and Super Pet (just north of West Edmonton mall) stores are the ones with the largest reptile selection, but often in less than ideal conditions. There is also a store called Koi that carries some herps and there is a large pet store in Sherwood Park - just east of Edmonton that often has a nice selection of well cared for herps.
If we are around at that time and you are interested in seeing snakes, we might be able to connect and you could drop by and see ours. Click on the camera by my name for some of our collection. Just e-mail me if interested.
Hope your brother in law is doing well and you have a good trip.

There is a little known specialty reptile store called The Reptile Gallery that is worth a visit. The store looks great and the animals are cared for very well. They have a great selection of snakes and other reptiles and they only carry captive bred animals. We just bought a pair of suriname red tail boas there and they are beautiful. You should definitely check it out!

Hi everyone,
Thanks for the advice regarding places to see. I would love to go to TARAS, but 4 hours from Edmonton to Calgary, and then four hours back might be a bit much, especially as we are making the nine hour trip to see my brother-in-law in the hospital. Once we get to Edmonton it is doubtful they will let us out of their sight, so Calgary is almost definitely out. They have been in Edmonton for almost three weeks, and as they are not from there, visitors are few and far between. Lonliness and homesickness will even make Kevin and I appealing company. If there are more places to see in Edmonton, please keep telling me about them.
Thanks,
Tara
4 hours to Calgary from Edmonton?? maybe in a big bus!! We do the drive in less than 3. OK OK, I may drive a little fast, but it can be done.

Ryan and Katie,
Have heard of the Reptile Gallery but not been there yet - do you know who is running it? Sounds interesting,

Mary, Quentin Boser runs the reptile gallery. You should stop by, it is well worth the visit. He has over 50 snakes for sale, all are CB, and he also has different lizards for sale.

Thanks Ryan and Katie,
I called yesterday and thought I recognized his voice. I sold a Florida kingsnake and a jungle carpet to him last fall and knew he had quite a collection. I will try to get in to the shop this week.
thanks and looking forward to photos of your new surinames,
mary v

Hey...
Thank You to Ryan and Katie for the kind words about my store and my livestock. I'm only as good as the animals I select and the domestic breeders I deal with! I hope you enjoy those stunning Surinams. They are truly a beautiful creature. Had a trio of pure Hogg Islands arive. Check them out when you get a chance...Also I've just added albino boa's to my salmon breeding project..Hope to incorporate my salmons to my albinos and then to my striped phase columbians! Should make for a very exciting breeding project!!!
Good luck to you all!

In reply to Damien,
"POOR ANGELA", that's my wife Is doing very well thankyou. General consensus seems to be that we have done well reorganising the store, getting the animals (snakes & all) into better pens & conditions. But don't take our word for it, ask our customers, who by the way have been great
Thanks to you all!
Ok I'm confused now.
first we have Damien saying this...
