Nice snake and yes a rubbermaid would help it shed. I have a friend that wants to get Carpets. He has never owned one but it is probably a good choice. They are beautiful!

Thanks Tim and Julie this is my 3rd Carpet my first snakes ever were carpets that i had given to me i know why they were free now "BITERS"...lol far from tame but i loved them anyways but i had to get rid of them when i had moved and wanted to get another one ever since then.
but this new one i got had aready shed the reason i was asking about the rubber-maid was i know my old carpets loved to soak in their water dish and this guy is a bit big for his water dish...lol
so for all the Carpet python people out there is the rubber-maid to soak in a good idea.....?

realy nice carpet man
Soak him ..
As for the BITERS comment .. Some are some are not.. I have 5 adults.. coastals and jungles.. and only one bites.. and I never handle em .. well only for cleaning..
one yearling IJ .. he is tame..
20 neonate and NONE show any sign of agression .. I think u just got unlucky and got a fiesty one..
I think the rubbermaid with water is a good idea even if he doesn't soak in it.... especially if you live somewhere dry as it is. Mine never soaks...... humidity hovers around 50-60% most of the time with the water bowl in the tank and he sheds perfect every time. I also spray down half the tank every day cuzz he'll only drink from the glass.... if he seems to be in a good mood then I'll mist him down too. But then again he's not 8 feet yet.... he's only about 9-10 months and 3.5 feet so it's prolly a little easier for him to stay hydrated.
Just wondering because I can't wait till mine gets a little bigger.... but can you guess or do you know about how much that guy in the pic weighs? and age???

Jeff, why do you state your oppinion as fact? I just don't get it. I have a juvi jungle that soaks before every shed even though relative humidity is in the 80's.
Burmese Python, do you use substrate?

Well i just got him so right now i am useing news paper but i was going to switch over to Repti bark.
And as for your opinion Jeff my old Carpet loved to soak any time
what is the best bedding to use for a carpet ?
He has a 4x4x4 cage with lot's to climb on but as much info for the best care for him would be great i know a bit about them as i had carpet's before but know i mostly know about Burms being that i have a few.

ok well that picture is the one that was sent to me before i got him so i dont know what they used for the bedding i dont have any pic's of him here yet but i will soon and be posting them thanks
Well, carpets really shouldn't soak unless they are about to shed or have mites, or don't have a suitable hidebox. If a carpet is soaking for much of the time I would start get a little worried.

Well this one does not soak but like i said my other one like to the odd time but thank you everyone for the help i just have one more question.....What is the best for bedding in the cage for a Carpet?
i use Repti bark for some of my snakes is that good for a Carpet as well?
You can use aspen mulch (with NO cedar) or newspaper/papertowel.

Thanks Zoe i think the aspen mulch would look a bit better then the newspaper so i will give that a try.
newspaper works good but i like my enclosures to look as much as the out doors as i can for my reptiles and because i think it makes them feel better as well.
Well, since the snake is new I would go with newspaper or papertowel at first. That way if you find out he has mites or something it's easier to replace, and you can monitor defecation much better. Once he's clean, then go with the mulch :]

 Well i just gota put my 2 cents worth in on this one... Carpets will and do soak if given the chance to do so.. I have jungle carpet pythons and one thats a diamond cross jungle and it soaks befour it sheds and they have a dish pan type deal to soak in.. they only seem to do it just befour and during a shed.. other than that its only used for drinking but i mist mine every few days, and as for bedding try using Cypress mulch..it holds moisture very well.. My jungles and diamond cross jungle preffer to stay in the tree branches rather than be down on the floor.....
