I have a 40 gallon tank with a California King in it and i was wondering if its too dry.

I'm using a undertank heater and red 100W(left 24/7) on the warm side, its about 88F-90F, cold side 70F.

should i remove the lamp and just stick to the undertank heater?

sounds good to me, cool end could stand to be a couple degrees warmer but i wouldn't go any warmer on the warm end. how big is the snake?

Probably born in '02 but you never know...

I'd say your enclosure is a bit on the big side but it should be ok as long as you give him plenty of hides. I'd give a couple on the warn, a couple on the cool and even a couple in the middle. Make them nice and tight so he feels secure when he's in hiding.

The temps seem ok. A bit on the upper and lower limit but again, not too bad. Mostly just change things as your snake tells you. If he's always on the warm side, the cool side might be too cool and vice versa.

If you have any pics, post them. We'd love to see what you've got going on and maybe someone will be able to give you some good tips....

Sure it is. Otherwise you end up with two warm sides, and no where to escape the heat.
