View Full Version : What to do to stimulate copulation?
ok, so, because i was in kentucky for most of the winter, my corns didnt get brumated this year or any of the regular pre-breeding stuff!
I tried putting 1 pair together a while ago, just to see what would happen, and the male was trying to entice the female, but she was totally unresponsive
Now, my question is,
Is there anything suggestions this late in the season (with no brumation) to try and stimulate breeding for this season?
i have only ever bred corns with brumation, but I know people have bred corns w/o brumation, but this female seems very unresponsive.
thx

If you use the female's shed cycle as some help in timing, it may be productive. The minute she has shed her skin, place it in with the male to get her scent on his mind. Follow in a few minutes by placing her in with him. In my exp. if he is a strong breeder, he will get what he wants. Some of my corns breed this late or later in the year. Don't sweat it. I'll bet you will have a clutch of eggs from them. ( You have to be positive- minded-right?) Good luck.

I agree with Mark totally. Many colubrids can be stimulated to breed without brumation and with only their shed cycles. Also repeatedly placng the male in with the female will stimulate her to ovulate. So keep introducing them together in intervals until she sheds. Good luck!

Also try misting the cage with luke warm water while they are in there. Got that from the corn snake manual, I think.
Good luck,

I've found that I can actually have the snakes in together & use their tails to stimulate each other. I'm talking me taking the bottom 1/2's of the male and female & holding them againest one another & use a series of jerky rubs to try & start them off, so to speak. It works easily on the males as they are usually horny anyhow, but I have used it to make the girls horny also. I have some females that I can "get turned on" just by even using my fingers to mimic the male by doing a jerky rubbing motion around their vents for a while & then do it with his tail & then leave them alone & see. All sounds kind of perverted eh, simulating my snakes & all. LOL I've seen pics of a lot worse out there though, LOL! Mark I.
mmm, sounds like fun mark, but thanks i will try that one.
and trev, thanks, i have been misting them with warm water everyday, havent noticed any cop. yet though :(

gonesnakee, that is some creative writing there my friend. You should write breeding articles. Not sure if those are the terms that make it to print or not but hey it's worth a try! lol
Ah there's one in every croud. You just couldn't let it go could you Brian? lol
Well done,
Trevor
Funny you should mention that method Mark cos I've used that many times on some corns and my caliking. I especially use it on this one particular female caliking who'd breed anything. She was getting so excited just by me touching her back that she bred with a corn soon after, with no male caliking to stimulate her. I use that method to "prime" females before introducing a male. Funny how they react to ya when you touch em the right way. See and people say snakes don't enjoy handling! ;)
well, i tried the rubbing thing last night, not sure if i was doing it right...
got bit twice and didnt look like i got them in the mood at all :(
I'll try again tonight :)
This thread is making me laugh! Stimulation, priming, rubbing. Man oh man, the perverted lengths we go to, to get them to breed!

We had better watch where we "take" this thread, there are laws againest Beastiality ya know, LOL! Oh & Matt you must be "rubbing them the wrong way" or maybe you are rubbing them the right way & they are biting you is just because they "like it rough" LOL Mark I. - GONE SNAKEE!
LOL Mark, thanks you might be right!
I'll let you know how round 2 goes tonight!
I did the shed thing since I brumated none of my snakes this year.
I just waited, the female shed, and I placed her in his enclosure. She refused.
I waited until the next shed and bam she was into it. But it happened later than I expected, late March....
In any case, with no brumation I got 19 fertile eggs. I was going to brumate next year but with this years sucess i might just skip it again. :D
