Any food item that is given to a leopard gecko should be no bigger than 3/4 the size of their head. If you give them food items that are bigger than that, it can cause digestive problems.

You really wouldnt need to feed a leo a pinky, IMHO. The only reason i can see ppl doing it is to fatten up the lizard. Thats what waxys are for :). Maybe for the vitamins? (Gut loading). Heh, not sure..Good question tho.

Waxies are actually a poor substitute for the vitamins and protiens found in pinkies. They are far too high in fatty acids and can be hard for lizards to digest. They should only be given once in a while(once a month maybe). Pinkies are important during the breeding season because females lose a lot of protien and can become dehydrated with all the egg laying. The digestion of the pinky protiens trigger the leo's need to drink water, which will help keep them hydrated. I would suggest that pinkies be given to adult female/male leos. Even if they have not yet laid eggs. Give them once a month for non egg layers and males, and twice a month for those who are laying. Be sure to dip the pinkies in calcium or multi-vitamins first.:D

There's no such thing as showing anyone up when it comes to sharing info! No worries!:D I'm sure your leos are probably quite healthy anyways. And I'm fairly certain that there's still gonna be people out there who disagree with what I've said. LOL.J.B.
