Have you guys seen/read this?

Has anyone read in the I think either this month or a few monthst ago Reptiles Magazine where they were talking about the Chinese medicine peeps that use rat snakes for ingredients? They dry up rat snakes they caught and grind them up and put them in 'medicines'. Now the specie is becoming endangered. Isn't that wrong?:( :mad:

Its a hard situation.

On one hand you have certain Chinese people/families who make geniune products from certain animals, and have been doing so for centuries. I don't believe that is wrong.

But on the other hand you have the certian Chinese people (or other cultures) who are doing it because they know "stupid" and easily led people will believe their product does something it does not.

It wasn't until humans MASSIVE population explosion that these natural, centuries old practices came under fire. When the earth had less people, there was more of a balance. But more and more and more people see they can make a fast buck cheap and they start depleting natural sources of snakes, rhinos etc.

I think it is wrong, but since we are of a different ethicalgroup we are in no place to judge. Since we are culturally different from them, we think that is strange, and they probably think some things we do are strange.

The only reason it is wrong in my opinion is the numbers they use. They are becoming endangered at an alarming rate and this should be avoided at all costs. JMO

How is this any different from what we do here? We breed cows, slaughter em and eat them. A long time ago there was no such thing as farmers, therefor they were wild caught. I am not saying that they shouldn be used, or atleast captive bred, but they gotta start somewhere. I don't beleive in this at all, but why not look at our own faults and failures before attacking another culture's.

Thanks. Not to attack the poster of this thread but it pissed me off when people attack other cultures when they have so many of there own problems. I mean we did this a long time ago, we still do...if anything we do it way more then people in china but we hide it. It sucks that the ratsnakes r in danger, but we in american have killed off so many animal populations that we really cannot say much about this

Hey cobra, you should definetly keep posting. Who cares if not everyone agrees with you. You just gotta learn to not take it so personally. Everyone has different beleifs, if anything you posting something that is diff from everyone elses beleif makes u braver then most people. its good to be different, not to conform and stuff.
Trust me you'll beleive me whe nyou guys finally see a pic of me. Conforming is for the weak, speak out, stand up for yourself and your beleifs no matter what people tell you

I was kicked out for starting fights....heehee! I mean i'm not in the mood to make people mad today. And just a thought about 300 people in my life have called me a spaz so don't freak if I get upset. :) You're so funny. All of you. You make me tear up with stuff too. I mean in a good way.
