I've been breeding mice for about 5 or 6 months and I came across an oddity yesterday. I found a mouse (about three weeks old) that is white with brown spots that has red eyes. I thought only albino (white) mice had red eyes. After further checking, I found a brown mouse with red eyes! The brown on both of these mice is light peanut butter brown in color. Has anyone seen this before?

im sure i had a hamster which was brown/grey and white with red eyes....we have hundreds of mice born every week at college and weve had alo t of oddballs turning up! i think ive seen a few grey ones with red eyes:) such sweet lil babies!
Not really an oddball. It happens a lot. I have orange red eyed mice, spotted red eye mice, white red eye mice, etc. I don't know much about mouse genetics but it happens. :)

I had black mice with red eyes, brown ones with red eyes, spotted ones with red eyes, white ones with red eyes...it's very very normal.
Think Piebald or paridox albino (both BP morphs). ;)

Wow, I thought only white mice had red eyes. Learn something new everyday. Anyway, I'll try to get them to breed and see what else turns up. Thanks for the info.

I breed my own rats. I have had alot of color variations. I had rats that had one eye red and the other a normal color. I had the fur all different colors. I guess its the dna that makes these things occur.
