Hey guys, Ive been talkin about breeding for a while now...I finally got me a male leo today at the Herp Show in AZ. Hes a high yellow, man hes awesome! The problem is..The female is a good size larger than the male. The breeder I bought the male from (Rich Macias at Bloodlines) said the if the male was smaller but was sexually mature they would breed just fine. He said the other way around wouldnt work though. Anyway, whats your feedback on this? Thanks guys.

They will breed if the male is sexually mature. You may want to seperate him for a while to get him a little bigger so he isn't intimidated by the female. You probably could breed a small female to a large male, but you wouldn't want to because if the female is too small she could get egg bound and die, or the male might be rough and bite her and hurt her.

Thanks tony, lol its ok to tell ppl you know me. Anyway guys, We went to the show together today and he picked out a nice mal for my female, but my question is, when he comes over and brings his male, we will prolly keep it in the tank until he leaves. Tony is over pretty often so it would be pretty frequent visiting. Would we get eggs out of them? Or does the female need to be around him continuously? Well thanks a lot guys, again, welcome to the forums tony.

Atheris - you won't get any blizzard babies unless the female is het for blizzard or blizzard. If she is het you should see about 25% blizzard and 75% 66% het. If she is blizzard you should see about half blizzard and half hets.

Well, how long does he stay for? If they are together for a few days then they may breed, or the male may be too stressed from the travelling and change of environments to be interested in mating.

usally i stay there for a while Like this weekend when i bought him this first house he saw was trevors and we didnt interduce them because we knew it would be a bad idea, and i was at trevors from friday to sunday...I could always go to trevors on a friday bring my lep. and put him in the tank with trevors then stay there as long as i can and then when i leave trevors i can just leave my gek there and then i would pick him up next weekend..And i trust trevor to take care of him and everything so im pretty sure that there will be no problem..

Heh, thanks Tony, But Zoe, when u say 25% blizz and 66-75% het do you mean ONE gecko would be 25% blizz and 66-75% het? Or the offspring is a 25% chance for blizz and 66-75% chance for het? Please elaborate a little...Im not too familiar with breeding. :) . Thanks Zoe!

It means that if you produce 4 eggs(in a breeding year) from the female 1(25%) will be blizzard and the other3(75%) will be 66% chance for het blizzard.

Well, thats cool. But if its only a CHANCE for it to be het, how do you know if its a het or not? Hets look the same as others. Thanks Tim and Julie B :)

you dont know until you breed it, that's why its 66% het.

i think i understand now...but how will we know if it is het or not when the hatchlings are born will there be a different coloration or what?

In order to find out if they are het, you'll to wait until they are breeding themselves. That's why it takes so long to create different morphs of leos. Many think that if you throw a couple of leos in together that you'll get specific patterns and colors, but you just never know. Good luck with breeding.:D
