Hi,
can anyone pls tell me what is first sign of shed???
Today I notice my blood's color is more dull than usual. I have not seen a snake shed so does not know what is the early sign n the subsequent stages.
Thanks

I have a Borneo short tailed that is in shed right now. Her color gets darker her eyes turn white and then go back to norm, they usually dont want to feed during shed. Keep a list of the date when your blood sheds. Snake shed about every two months depending on food intake. I bump up my humidity to around 70-80 during shed. Make sure they have a big bowl of water to soak in or soak them your self. Just read up on the matter is the best way. go to vpi.com they have some good info on bloods. take care Nick
The earliest signs of a shed are typically a generally dullness/darkening in colour accompanied by a pink belly. As forementioned above, make sure to increase your humidity during this time so your snake has a nice, one-peice shed, as well as keep record of it. Records are very important in keeping snakes, yuou should keep track of when your snakes defecates, sheds, feeds (or refuses to), weight, etc.

There is no set cycle on which snakes shed. Babies -generally- shed more frequently than adults do, however that is the only thing that really can be said of frequency. 2 months is very frequent, and would be expected of a baby... however even babies may not shed that frequently, or in some cases moreso. Many adult snakes only shed a few times a year.

With short-tails, they turn almost a total white-greyish color. Of course, their eyes to go blue as well. Like Linds said, each snake has thier own growth rates; sometimes they will shed every 2 months, other times they will shed every two weeks. It all depends on thier cycles.

Thanks.
My blood's head looks like cloudy grey color. But it had been like that for quite a few days already. Is it normal for them to take such a long time to shed??

From the time they go blue to the time they shed, mine average 7 days.
