Yep the garage caught on fire. no one was hurt only a bike 3 extension cords and a hose were burnt. when I opened the garage and it was BLACK with smoke it was flooding out. first I told my sister called 911 grabbed my ball python put him in a rubbermaid tub grabbed my southern pine snakes my jcp and my leo and got out the door they sat outside for a couple of hours in 55 degree weather so I hope there all ok. my room is RIGHT next to the garage so they would have surely been burnt quickly if it had spread and no one noticed. luckly I did All the dogs are scared S#$@ less and so was I couldnt get my cham's out So i was forced to leave them since there cage is big and heavy and they wont let me pick them up. luckly no smoke was in my room or at least not much so they should be fine.
Wow, thats really unfortunant. Hopefully all your herps and your family will be fine. Luckily it didn't spread any further. My friend's house burnt down 2 years ago. She had a tokay gecko in her room inside an aquarium on an iron cast stand. That was basically the only thing left stading in her room. Fortunetly the gecko survived and is still alive to this day. Its amazing what some xreatures can survive.
Best of luck to ya, hopefully everything gets straightned out soon enough.
Do you have any idea what caused the fire?

The chams should be fine there was very little smoke that got to the room there just a bit freaked out
I think the fire was started by a extension cord that was left plugged in and was shorted by water

OMG, you are very lucky! I'm glad you caught it in time so it couldn't do any serious damage to you, your house, or your herps. You're very blessed, indeed! I hope everything is alright in the future.

Holy Bruce, I read the Home page and thought you lost your house! Good to hear that it wasn't that serious. I hope all year animals are OK. Dogs are usually good smoke detecters. Unfortunate about the bike. Hopefully it wasn't expensive. Glad to hear everythings OK.

Hopefully the bike will be covered by insurance btw its Bryce not Bruce but Whatever.. If the house burnt down I wouldnt be posting or even thinking about this forum for a long time i would be too busy with other stuff. One thing that is sad that i forgot to mention is I had 3 mice in the garage that was PACKED with rubber smoke the bike tire burnt up with the hose and extension cords its the worst smoke I know of. they were stuck in there with this black smoke for probley at least a hour and a half they are partialy blackened and I doubt they will live beacuse of the horrable smoke its sad And I doubt anything could be done for them but they arent showing sings of sickness right now and i hope they dont
Glad you got your critters out. Hope your chams are ok. everything else can be replaced but lives can't. It's important to have a plan for emergancy's like this.
What an awful ordeal! I hope you manage to pull your herps through. I'll bet the dogs will be freaked out for awhile too :(
Are you going to be able to house everyone in a warm place while your home's being aired out and fixed? I hope so!
So sorry to hear about your fire.
Bj

Wow! What a scare. Really glad to hear everyone is ok, sorry about the mice though.
Wowsa :bugout: Lucky indeed! Glad everything worked out ok :)
Wow thats a terrible thing.
Since the mice are alive still I hope you will keep them for pets and not feeders! *LOL* Three smoke damaged mice deserve to live as pets! hahaha :)
Glad no one was hurt and your house is in tact. We had a medium size garage fire just like yours almost. Didn't even know anything was on fire, but the smoke damage was very very bad and even today 3 years later we are discovering things that were damaged by the smoke that we didn't even notice before. (i..e wood, the porch, etc)

I heard of frogs living through a burning greenhouse... Waxy Monkey Tree Frogs I recall they were... called :P Anyone can clarify if this is true or just a stroke of luck?
Thanks
