Never Again!

This is an awful feeding story I dont know if anyone here gets queesy about feedings I but just incase I figured that maybe I should warn ya before you read it.
Ok my larger gal that I have talked about was lookin a bit hungry. At the moment she is just the right size for small rats but I cant get her to do the switch. So I get this lovely idea in my noggin that hey Ill just throw in one if the baby rabbits that was born the day before easter. I figured if she didnt take it I could just put it back with the mom there arent any claws developed on it so it was pretty much a safe thing for the snake. So I put them in the feeding tank and of course kick back to watch. She went for it right aaway missing the first 3 or 4 strikes the next she got it and here I am thinkin to myself, "Well that was easy." I look away for a while just a minute or so look back and the thing is still alive while shes squeezing so hard its eyes are bulging out. Ok its gotta be over soon Im thinking to myself. Let me tell you all either these baby rabbits are very strong or my gal is a wimp she tried 3 different holds on it and actually started to look tired laying there partially belly up. Im watching it thinkin the next breath will be the last but it isnt theres more. UGH! Ok so shes tired of squeezing it and decides its time to chew on it a bit. Im thinkin oh hell no! You cant eat that woman what are you thinkin its still moving! So I reach in and shake it a bit trying to get her to let go without hurting her. She lets go not happily though and I wack the thing on the side of the tank the thing goes flying and Im stuck with a hollow tail nub in my hand. EWWWWW GROSS! YUCKY! And its still moving Ok I ack it 3 times then finally I kill it bt pulling the head and the feet. Oh dear lord what an awful idea! what the heck was I thinking? So I put it back in the tank with the girl and guess what she doesnt want it no more. OK what ever I dont care Im just gald its over and cant wash my hands enough. Ugh the tail thing just creeps me out!
So just incase anyone is ever thinks to do this (which I doubt anyone would) dont bother! How nerve wracking! And what a waste of food! After all that she ended up eating mice.

The thing would have died sooner or later you could have let the snake chew on it a bit, if it was not a dangerous size then why bother interupt the feeding. Garder snakes eat frogs while there still alive. I hade the same incedent hapen with my boa tonight I ''killed '' a rat but it was not quite dead when I saw it was still alive and in the snakes jaws I grabed the rat and started squeezing the life out of it, but I never took it away. Your ball may dot eat for a while now be ready for that you stresed it out. Do you realise how much energy it took to do all that work and then get scared and decied to not eat now how will it replenish it's energy suply. The snake knew best if it started by the head the thing would have sufacated and would have died B4 the snake had time to put it in it's mouth all the way.

I AGREE WITH CHONDRO. YOU SHOULD OF GIVEN THE SNAKE SOME TIME TO KILL AND EAT. PLUS DONT BE SO GROSSED OUT THATS JUST PART OF DEALING WITH FEEDERS.

I think I was so grossed out because of the tail comming off. Not to mention Ive had a pet rabbit for over a year now and its very close to the equivelent of feeding a kitten to me. Ive never seen any of my snakes try to eat thier food still alive either and Ive heard that if the food isnt killed all the way then it could scratch its way out. Now I dont know if thats BS or not but Im sure dont wanna find out.
Im not sure about the stress thing like I said the snake did eat mice afterwards without hessitation so I doubt it phased her much.
Oh well one way or the other Im not gonna pull that again at least not for a long time.

Good Lord, that must've been a traumatizing experience...THAT is exactly why I only keep snakes that will take F/T, I couldn't handle feeding live...

If that is the case why would you be afraid that it would scrach it's way out of your snake.

I agree the tail thing gets me every time it hapends it is just not somthing that I see every day.

ugh.... ok baby rabbits are all born with very soft teeny tiny claws they just havent realy hardened. They are so soft they couldnt possibly hurt an almost 3 foot ball python. At least not its scales I would imagine that it could probably hurt its insides though. When I said they werent developed what I meant was they were soft just like its bones still arent developed they are soft as well. ;) I guess I should pay more attention to how I word things. Wow, baby rabbits are a lot smaller than I expected! (I've never actually seen one before, heheheh)

They are pretty tiny but there was 8 in the litter and they are only a few days old, oh and its a mini lop. ;)

The pup more than likely would have suffocated before getting too far down the snake's throat. Although inhumane, I don't believe it would have been dangerous for the snake.

Just my opinion :)
