After searching forever and asking everyone here where the best place to find one is, I caught one!

I found him under a piece of ply I put in my back woods to attract things. I guess it worked!

Yes, it is very awesome looking. I took a pic of his belly(crappy pic but, oh well!). All he does during the day is hide under the substrate. But now that it's dusk, he's out and about!

What type of snake (?) is that? :)

That would be a ringneck snake. You can see how it gets it's name from the first picture :)

nice. Keep plentyof worms around. I found a couple 13 inch ones this weekend that are going to be used for education, so I turned the little guy loose ;)

I got like 5 worms crawling around in there now. I guess he can eat them when he wants. Is there any way to coax him out now and again? He's always below the substrate! And is there a good way to get him to eat? Or is this a by chance thing?

What a cool little snake! How big do they get? They eat worms!?!

Well, I guess they can get 13" about. This guy is about 8 or 9". And yes, they eat worms, slugs and (a website said) anoles. But I cannot see this little guy eating anoles. Maybe a full grown snake and a baby anole. That might work.
What a cool find! Looks like your plywood was just the trick. Perhaps there will be something else under there next time!

THey are pretty much strictly worm eaters. these 13 inchers are pretty large ones. I think the largest one i have ever caught was 18" and about as big around as a Sharpie Marker. With all the little worm eaters, i always cup feed. Just throw him in there with a worm. I dont know any way to get them to come out. One of the ones I caught was actually crossing a trail. It was the FIRST time I have ever seen one not under something and out and about.

Okay, so just throw it in a delicup with a worm? I hope he'll eat it and not try to escape. I will try feeding today. Thanks for the help.

They actually eat salamanders as well, which probably explains why they're never found out in the open much. Worms would be the easiest captive food...

Personally, I would not Pancur a Ringneck.
