hello,

My 10 month old female leopard gecko isn't eating anymore (or not much).

Since she was a baby i've fed her crikets but she started to not eat them so I switched to mealies (which she lovvved!!) and she ate her 10mealies/day until 1-2 weeks ago. Now she gets lose to them, takes a sniff and backs off. I've tried superworms but she isn't interested in them. I bought crikets again and she will eat 1-2 but only if they come close to her, if not she wont chase them. I have tried live and dead pinkies but she won't touch them and she doesn't touch wax worms.

What else can I try??

Thanks!

Have you had a fecal done on her or your other leos? Internal parasites are sometimes the cause of loss of appetite, I'm am in the process of treating 3 of my 4 geckos for parasites. The vet told me that it's rare that geckos aren't affected by one of the many types of internal parasites. Usually their system can fight off most of the affection but when it takes over the digestive track in big numbers, that's when you see the bigger symptoms and need to treat it.

The fact that your leo is refusing so many different types of food would make me look at what would make her lose her appetite. I don't think she just doesn't like her food anymore.

I don't know any good herp vets near where I live. Since you live in mtl can you refer me to some good vets?

Thanks!

My pleasure :)

I know of 3 good reptile vets around Montreal:

The famous Dr. Gauvin located in Lachine (very well known for work with reptiles, the one that most other vets refer to)

Dr. Tadeusz Sikorski (referrence from Magazoo) is a block away from the Magazoo shop north on Papineau. He is the vet that I brought all my animals for a checkup to this week. I was very happy with his services.

There is also a clinic in NDG and South-Shore of Montreal. My friend who has an iguana goes to the one on the South Shore and she is very happy with their services.

I have to go look up their addresses and numbers, I'll post when I have them all :)

It happens with Leos. They fast. 1-2 weeks is not bad. Murtle went for almost 4 months this winter only eating one or two insects per week. I wouldn't worry about it too much unless other symptoms occur or she starts to drop weight quickly. If she doesn't eat again in a couple more weeks then I'd consult a vet. How much does she weigh? My boy Seneca just hit 88 grams and now he's started to fast a bit. I know him, it wont last long. It seems this time of year females can get picky with their food as well. Certainly not a bad idea to get a fecal done just to be on the safe side.

Thank you Pixie!! :)

I'll watch her closely and see if she starts to eat more.
