I have a quick question to those of you who own brazilian rainbow boas. I have heard they are a bit agressive and are hard to tame is this true?
Thanks
Brian

I would have to say the exact opposite of what you have heard. Babies are generally born striking at any movement, however they are probably one of the easiest species, IMHO, to acclimate to handling. They calm down relatively easily in a very short preiod of time with a regular, gentle handling schedule. They are probably one of my favourite species temperament-wise. They are quicker moving with a better grip than most boids, however I find them to have the mildest, most predictable temperaments.

I have just bought a Brazilian Rainbow and she is an October hatchling. So far she has been failry docile, she has struck a few times at inanimate objects and me, but missed most of the time. Yesterday evening she bit me for the first time, but it only drew a small amount of blood, nothing really.

I also held a 4 year old brazilian yesterday, about 5ft long. He was a very docile snake, and really easy to handle. Apart from when he had to go back in his viv and didn't want to let go of my arm. they are VERY strong snakes.

I bought two back in December. In the begining they struck at everything. Mostly when going in or out of the cage. A small hook is not a bad idea in the begining to get them in and out. The male soon clamed down but the female is still unpredicatble. I'm sure she will come around in time.
Cheers,
Trevor

We've got a pair of almost adults, a little over 4', and they're quite laid back, docile, and great to handle. When we first got them, the female was a little aggressive/defensive and actually bit once....since then, though, she's tamed right down with frequent handling, never bit again. The male has never been anything but a joy to hold. So, it seems to be the concensus that the males are a little more laid back, and the females take a little more work. At least, judging from the previous posts...

I have a pair of Adults, about 5-6 years old... they are dog tame and very fun to handle...
But the female is a littlemore nervous than the male, shes gets really fast when shes handled... but NeveR shows any signs of agressivity...

Hehehe... someone forgot to tell one of mine! I named my orange male "Tagz" because I had never (and this hold true to this day) been tagged so many times in such a short period of time by one animal :p When you had him out he would bite non-stop the whole time... a 5 minute session would leave you with 20 bite marks :p This behaviour lasted about 3 weeks (handled daily except when digesting) and he never showed another sign of agression since :)

My Mambo has never bitten or even threatened. You have been mis-informed.

My brother has a 10 or 11 month old BRB Female. The only time she bites iss when you piss her off. Example when you touch her rear end (tail) like most women they attack hehe. She'll turn around and try biting you. OR when she is moved to much for example being passed around and someone is trying to unwrap her off another person she gets pissed off and will snap. Otherwise they are beautiful and very nice snakes to have. I have never been bitten by that snake just for the record. Her nickname that I gave her is "the bitch" . That's my story
