Well, it is getting that time of year. Got off work today and headed down to the "Hooch" for about an hour of herping. Mainly looking for small stuff since that is what most people find in their yard. Wasn't bad for an hour of flipping rocks :D

Found a total of 3 of these little dirt kissers in 5 minutes.

Also found the largest Slimy Slamabder I have ever seen (about 6 or 7 inches :o ) and a few other salamanders and skinks.

But the last rock I flipped before I hit the parking lot toleave yielded this this guy.

Definately the highlight of my day and more than i was expecting. Sweet little garter too, no biting no musking.

The snake in the first picture is very tiny. I think that I would loose a snake that small. But I like the look of it.

not bad for a small rec area in the middle of Atlanta, GA! ;) I have also found adult garters, water snakes, Black Ratsnakes, and Chain Kings there. Still waiting to find a Copper. I know they are there.

We U.S.ers should try to get together some time and take a week trip somewhere!

LOL, just hanging out under a rock. I am amazed there was only one. Usually i'll find a dozen or so.

Is it very moist there or what? What does this area look like? Is it very woody or cleared out like a park? I have got to go to some forest somewhere and look for a ringneck. I really want to keep one in the spare 20 gallon long I got! I would love to get about 2 or 3 and start a little breeding project for fun and some snake experiance. Did you find these at night?

We find ring necks all over missouri.....they are one of the most common when out herp'n! Next to the Black Snake (Elaphe obsoleta obsoleta).

wow those worm snakes are cute. Just out of curiosity are they hard to care and find in the herp trade? I wouldnt mind owning a few since they stay small. Also I heard that ringnecks can be rare and are hard to care for is this true? VERY nice pictures, wish i had an assortment of herps like that in my area.

Leo Land,
just flip paving stones in someone's yard for ringnecks. You'll find 'em. and a 20 long is ALOT of cage for them. They stay small. A 2.5 gallon works for me. The largest one I have EVER found was 18". He would have to be in a 10.
