View Full Version : Bromeliads
I'm thinking of using a few bromeliads in my next dart frog set up and was wondering if there is any real danger (to the frogs) of using some of the species with serrated edges. I'm not talking about the huge "silver vase" (Aechmea sp?) type but some of the smaller varieties that still have some serrations. Any recommendations?
Thanks,
Duncan

No idea for frogs, but i used one like that for a baby day gecko and it tore a huge gash on its belly. It was when i was moving the cage and it freaked out and caught its skin on the edge. Hope this helps.

I found the name of the bromeliad that I have and am a bit worried about, its called Cryptanthus sp. The edges are mildly serrated. Anyone have any experience with this plant?

Hi Duncan, most dart frogs can navigate the spines of many broms, even the big aechmea species. They seem to be well adapted to dealing with these prickers. Cryptanthus will be no problem.
