New boa owner help?

Hi I just purchased my fist colombian red tail boa and I have a few questions. I have done my research but have not found as much info on them that I would have liked. My first question is what size cage for an adult. Also what should the humidity be at?

Hi,
An RTB adult boa cage should be about 4 to 5ft long, 3-4ft deep, and 2-2.5 ft high, depending on how long the boa is.
Humidity should be moderate to high, I spray mine every other day, but I'm not sure about the exact %. I'd say 65% if I had to guess.

BCI generally do fine with humidity levels around 55%, you may want to increase it to 60%-65% around the time of a shed. The general rule for cage size is to provide 1 square foot of floor space for every foot of snake. A 5' snake will be fine in a 3x2, a 7 foot snake will be fine in a 4x2 cage, and so forth. I don't recommend pushing it to the max for cage space, but leaving a little extra room. Whether or not you choose to give your snake much vertical space is up to you, they are fine either way :)

Hey I've got myself a RTB and i've made a design plan on its life long enclosure it'll be 8ft longx4ft Highx4ft Wide but thats gonna have one Ball Python(Adult Male), and one RTB(Adult Female). Then i'm making a 5ft Longx3ft Highx3ft Wide for mine and my bros Bearded Dragon.

I keep mine in a 6x2x2 enclosure, which should be sufficient for her entire life. I keep humidity on the low side, around 50-60%, but I do provide a humidity box, which is just a small tupperware filled with damp spaghnum moss. The humidity there is about 80-90%. I just find it more efficient this way.

Just to add a little more to Lind's advice; the minimum depth I would go is 2'. I am just mentioning this because when I told someone about the 1 sq. ft per foot rule, he wanted to make a 1' x 8' terrarium from an old bookshelf, which would be way too narrow for a boa constrictor.

Ya whats wrong with housing them together its only for a short period of time they get along great they like to snuggle into each other(its quite cute) and such so i see no problems in doin so. They're gonna be fed in different enclosures, they are both healthy and so i don't see what the problem is.

what is the average size of a four year old RTB?

well my BCI is about 2 1/2 years old and i finally got a good measurement of her and she is 5 1/2 feet. i was pretty surprised when she was laying on the floor beside me and was almost as long as me i am 6 foot 3.


and also snake hunter that is a bad idea housing two different species together. they both come from different parts of the world and there for should not be housed together.

Correct Het. Each snake has an immunity to certain organisms that are prolific in their own part of the world. Put an African snake in with one from South America and you are asking for trouble. They also have different care requirements.
