Boa constrictor and green anaconda?

I went to the zoo a few days ago ( and spent at least 1 hour looking at the reptiles) and they was keeping two boa constrictors with two green anacondas together. I was wondering if it is a good idea to do this, or if it was dangerous (one eating the other) they seemed about the same size but they was all in tangled up.

well this is just me but i would never keep two diff species together. no matter if they are boids or pythons.
i dont think that they will eat each other.
but i have seen some pics of some keepers keep pythons, boas, and anacondas in the same enclosure. but to me this isnt a good idea.

I have seen these species kept together at zoos too, and I assume that as long as they are compatibly sized and that their husbandry requirements are fairly similar, it is fine. Personally, I would not house them together.

which zoo was it???? it has been reported that green anacondas have eaten cagemates.

Since I barely know know anything about snakes, I wouldn't take the chance no matter what. Two species together makes me nervous although if you give them more space than they need and know exactly all about each of their specific requirements, I't might be safe. Still, I personally would NOT do it.

We don't mix many species but I have never heard of any problem with keeping greans and common boas together.. we have been doing it at our local zoo for over 3 years and never ever had a problem ... true there not the smae species .. but its not like a boa and a python .. there both boas... In the wild they do come in contact with each other as well .

As long as they are from the same geographic location its ok to mix same species so long as they are (here's the key part) provided with a large enough enclosure that their natural habitat/s can be simulated, and that allows them the space to be alone at all times if they wish. This is next to impossible for most private keepers to pull off... but is definitely feasable for many zoos. If the animals are from different geographic locations, you run into problems of animals not naturally encountering eachother in the wild, as well as problems associated with each animals host specific bacteria and different tolerances, and of course the obvious husbandry differences.

although many reptiles can be mixed i have heard of 2 cases of E. murinus eating cagemates. (G Murray 1994 pers comm, and M Gay 1996 pers comm)

My buddy in Montreal has his green with a tree and a regular red tail boa. He keeps them in a huge room about the size of an average 3 bedroom appartment. He only had problems when he was introducing them into the anaconda's space. On the subject of mixing and matching....iam not really for it....another friend of mine.....a wrestler lol he has a red tail and a burm.....he brings them to his matches kinda like that snake dude ways back.....anyhows he decides he wants to buy another snake but something cheap....so off he goes to the store and buys this snake....a small kingsnake.....a cali I believe....the clerk said no problem with that.....he puts it in with his boa.....a few hours later he looks in and the king is trying to coil around this 8 foot boa.....the boa slept through the whole ordeal....so back when went the king.....no point to that last part but for the anaconda boa thing if the cage is suitable etc then no probs but Iam not one to do that.....maybe two python species....my two cents or more lol

I seen baby red tails and balls in the same cage at my local pet store . He said because they shared simular elements. I love to see diferent snakes in the same cage snuggeld together i think it looks cute.

THESE SNAKES COME IN CONTACT WITH EACH OTHER IN THE WILD AND ARE BOTH BOAS. PLUS MOST PEOPLE WHO TAKE CARE OF THE ANIMALS AT THE ZOO HAVE GOOD KNOWLEDGE OF REPTILES. SO I DONT BELIEVE ITS A PROBLEM. NICK

Your friend and the guy at the pet store are stupid . evry body knows the king snake is a know canible. There crazy enogh to make diner out of a rattler I think it will put some pressure on a boa

I worked in a zoo dedicated only to reptiles and never have I asked or was told to put our anaconda and BCI in the same cage yes they may come in contact in the wild but they dont wang out or role around in each other escraments or share the same water bowl and a anaconda has difrent needs then a BCI a anaconda requiers 90% of the cage to be water the BCI will not alwase hang out in the water like the anaconda. they need room to strech every now and again.

Man I have 2 BCI'S together and I dont like the Idea I am seperating them in 2 monts so they can have there own cages and more room each.
